Chapter 2 - The Silent Phoenix

The rain began to fall the moment Isabella stepped out of the Cross estate. She didn't call a driver. Instead, a sleek, black armored Maybach pulled up to the gates. The door opened, and a young man in a tailored suit quickly stepped out, holding a large umbrella over her head.
"Welcome back, Boss," Logan said, his voice filled with deep respect. He handed her a pair of comfortable flats and a warm coat. "We’ve been waiting for you to finish with them."
"Is everything prepared, Logan?" Isabella asked, stepping into the luxury vehicle.
"The assets are ready to be frozen. The corporate backing has been pulled. The moment you give the word, the Cross family will realize they’ve been living on a house of cards," Logan replied, a sharp smile touching his lips.
For four years, Isabella had played the role of the quiet, submissive wife to protect her husband’s pride. Damian had assumed she was a penniless orphan. In reality, Isabella was the sole heiress to the Vanguard Group, a global mega-conglomerate that controlled the very banks holding the Cross family’s debt.
While Evelyn and Damian mocked her "lack of breeding," Isabella had secretly been signing off on the bailouts that kept Cross Enterprises afloat.
Inside the car, Isabella opened her laptop. Her face was illuminated by the blue screen as she opened a secure portal.
"Logan, cancel the $200 million credit line we extended to Cross Enterprises last month," Isabella ordered, her fingers flying across the keyboard. "And notify the board of directors at the state bank that we are recalling all outstanding loans, effective immediately."
"And the charities, Boss?"
"Withdraw all Vanguard sponsorships from Evelyn’s foundations. Let’s see how many of her wealthy friends attend her tea parties when she has no money to fund them."

Within minutes, the commands were executed. Isabella leaned back against the leather seat, watching the city lights blur through the rain-streaked window.
"They wanted to pretend I didn't exist," she whispered to herself. "Now, they will have to learn how to survive without me."
