Elena struggled to sit up.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Daniel took one slow step toward her.
"I've spent twenty years looking for you."
Tears filled Elena's eyes.
"No... you stopped looking."
Daniel shook his head.
"I never did."
He explained everything.
The day he had planned to propose, he had been sent overseas after his father's company became the target of a dangerous financial scandal. Before he returned, someone had forged letters, making each of them believe the other had chosen to walk away.
Elena lowered her head.
"I found out I was pregnant after you left."

"They're your daughters."
