Chapter 2: The Name He Never Forgot

The billionaire stood frozen.

"Elena... Ward?" he whispered, barely able to breathe.

The twins exchanged nervous glances. They had expected another polite stranger—not a man whose face had suddenly turned pale.

"You know our mom?" one of them asked.

He didn't answer immediately. Instead, he stared at the portrait on the easel. It was simple, painted with faded colors, but he recognized the woman instantly.

Twenty years had passed.

She looked older now, thinner... but those same gentle eyes were unmistakable.

His bodyguard stepped closer. "Sir, are you alright?"

The billionaire ignored him.

"Take me to her," he said quietly.

The girls hesitated.

"Our mom's really sick," the younger twin said. "She can't even get out of bed."

Without another word, he followed them through narrow streets, away from the city's luxury district and into a neighborhood where broken windows and worn-down buildings told stories of forgotten lives.

When they opened the apartment door, he saw her lying on a small couch, wrapped in a thin blanket.

Elena looked up.

The medicine bottle slipped from her hand.

"...Daniel?"

The room fell completely silent.

Neither of them had expected to see the other ever again.
