Chapter 4 - The Trap Is Sprung

Sarah’s heart dropped into her stomach. "No... no! How did you know I was coming?!"

The door opened further, and Ethan walked into the room, wearing a simple grey hoodie and jeans. He looked at Sarah with a mixture of sadness and disappointment.

"Because I know you, Sarah," Ethan said softly. "When you're backed into a corner, you don't reflect on your actions. You look for someone else to blame. I knew the moment Carter Reed saw that video, he would reach out to you—or you to him."

Sarah backed against the safe, clutching the drive to her chest. "You set me up again! You're a monster, Ethan! You lured me here!"

"I didn't lure you anywhere, Sarah," Ethan said, taking a step forward. "The keycard you used was deactivated three days ago. I reactivated it two hours ago just to see if you would actually break into my home to steal from me. I gave you every chance to move on with your life, but you chose revenge."

Sarah began to shake uncontrollably. "Ethan... please! Don't call the police! We were together for two years! Doesn't that mean anything to you?!"

"It meant everything to me," Ethan said, his voice dropping to a somber tone. "I hid my wealth because every woman I dated before you only cared about my bank account. I wanted to find someone who loved me for who I was—a simple guy who liked reading, quiet dinners, and simple things. For two years, I thought maybe... just maybe... you were different. But you were just waiting for a bigger payday."

Ethan gestured to the police officers. "Take her."

As the officers stepped forward and slapped the cold metal handcuffs onto Sarah’s wrists, she screamed and thrashed. "Ethan! You ruined me! I hate you! I hate you!"

"Take the drive to Carter Reed," Ethan instructed Marcus calmly, ignoring her screams.

Marcus blinked in surprise. "Sir?"

"Let Carter think he succeeded," Ethan said, a cold, strategic light gleaming in his eyes. "It's time to end Reed Enterprises once and for all."
