Chapter 4 — A Different Kind of Strength

Chapter 4 — A Different Kind of Strength

Weeks later, the courthouse steps looked nothing like Clare remembered.

She entered through the front doors surrounded not by fear but by people who believed her.

Her attorney.

Her father.

Friends she thought she had lost.

The proceedings were respectful and deliberate.

Evidence spoke louder than emotion.

Medical documentation.

Digital records.

Financial disclosures.

Witness testimony.

Matthew avoided looking in her direction.

When asked whether she wished to make a statement, Clare stood slowly.

"I spent years believing silence protected peace," she said.

"It doesn't."

"It protects the person causing harm."

"I can't change what happened."

"But I can refuse to carry the shame for someone else's choices."

The courtroom remained silent after she finished.
