Clare spent two days at the hospital.

The physical injuries would heal.

The emotional ones would require longer.

Robert visited every morning before sunrise.

Sometimes they talked.

Sometimes they simply watched the city through the window.

On the third day, Robert placed a worn envelope beside her breakfast tray.

"I kept these."

Inside were handwritten business plans.

Investor notes.

Early presentation drafts.

Every page carried Clare's handwriting.

"You built more than you ever admitted," Robert said.

"I helped."

"You built."

She looked down at the faded ink.

For years she had convinced herself that those sacrifices no longer mattered.

Now she saw proof that they had.

Not because of money.

Because they represented who she had once been before she started believing she deserved less.

"I don't know who I am anymore," she admitted.

Robert smiled gently.
