Chapter 4 - The Rescue at the Waterfront

The cold October rain continued to pour over the dark waters of the Narragansett Bay.

Two black SUVs tore through the gates of an abandoned Whitlock warehouse near the edge of the shipping yards. Daniel stepped out into the downpour, his black trench coat swirling around him. He didn't wait for his enforcers; he led the charge, his hand resting on the grip of the firearm concealed beneath his coat.

Inside the rusted, dripping warehouse, three guards hired by the Whitlocks were startled by the sudden crash of the heavy metal doors being kicked off their hinges.

Before they could raise their weapons, Daniel’s men flooded the space with military precision. Gunfire echoed through the cavernous room, brief and decisive. Within seconds, the guards were disarmed and pinned to the concrete floor.

Daniel walked past them, his eyes scanning the dark corners of the warehouse. In a small, caged office in the back, a man sat chained to a metal chair beneath a single flickering lightbulb. He was thin, pale, and covered in bruises, but his eyes were wide and filled with a desperate hope.

"Caleb?" Daniel asked, stepping into the cage.

The young man blinked against the light. "Who... who are you? Did the Whitlocks send you to finish this?"

"I’m Daniel Carver," the boss said, pulling a set of keys from a fallen guard's belt and unlocking Caleb’s chains. "Your sister Hannah is safe at my estate. I’m taking you home."

Caleb gasped, his weak legs barely supporting him as Daniel helped him stand. "Hannah... she’s alive? The baby?"

"She is safe, and the baby is fine," Daniel assured him, his voice uncharacteristically warm. "Let's get you out of here."

As they drove back to the Carver estate, the storm finally began to clear, leaving behind a crisp, starry night.

When the SUV pulled up to the grand entrance of the mansion, the front doors flew open. Hannah ran down the steps, ignoring the cold air. She didn't care about her bruised ribs or the doctor's orders. She only cared about the brother she thought she had lost forever.

Caleb stepped out of the vehicle, tears streaming down his face.

"Caleb!" Hannah cried, throwing her arms around his neck.

"Hannah... oh God, Hannah," Caleb sobbed, holding her tight, mindful of her pregnant belly. "I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry I couldn't protect you and Aaron."

Daniel stood by the car, watching the reunion in silence. For the first time in his life, the ruthless mafia boss felt a profound sense of peace. He had spent his entire life fighting to protect his empire, but looking at Hannah and her brother, he realized that this was the only kingdom that truly mattered.
