Chapter 6 - A New Legacy

One Year Later

The grand cathedral of St. Patrick in Midtown Manhattan was filled to capacity with thousands of white roses, soft candlelight, and quiet, respectful music.

Outside, a private security detail of fifty elite Moretti guards kept the streets completely clear, ensuring total privacy for the event of the decade.

Inside the cathedral, six-year-old Daniel stood near the altar wearing a miniature black tuxedo, holding a velvet ring pillow, smiling broadly as he looked toward the back of the church.

The organ swelled into a magnificent, triumphant harmony as the heavy oak double doors swung open.

Walking down the aisle, illuminated by the golden light streaming through the stained-glass windows, was Elena.

She was breathtaking. She wore an exquisite lace gown with a long silk train that flowed behind her like a river of ivory. Her dark hair was styled in an elegant updo, holding a delicate diamond tiara that sparkled in the candlelight.

Standing at the altar, waiting for her, was Gabriel Moretti.

He looked extraordinarily handsome in a dark charcoal tuxedo, his sharp features relaxed into a look of absolute, breathtaking devotion. The cold, feared king of the New York underworld was gone; standing in his place was a man completely, irrevocably in love.

When Elena reached the altar, Gabriel stepped down to take her hand. His large, warm fingers wrapped around hers, kissing her knuckles gently before leading her to stand beside him before the Archbishop.

"We are gathered here today," the Archbishop began, his voice echoing through the vast stone arches, "to unite Gabriel Moretti and Elena Cruz in the holy bond of matrimony..."

Throughout the ceremony, Gabriel never let go of Elena’s hand. Every time he looked at her, he remembered the bloody, fearless girl in the blue janitor's uniform who had stood between his son and death. She had taught him that true strength wasn't measured by guns, empires, or fear—it was measured by the willingness to protect those who couldn't protect themselves.

"Do you, Gabriel Moretti, take Elena Cruz to be your lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, until death do you part?"

Gabriel looked deep into Elena’s warm brown eyes, his voice steady, deep, and ringing with absolute certainty throughout the cathedral.

"I do," Gabriel said.

"And do you, Elena Cruz, take Gabriel Moretti to be your lawful wedded husband..."

"I do," Elena smiled, a tear of pure happiness slipping down her cheek.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the Archbishop announced. "What God has joined together, let no man put asunder. You may kiss the bride!"

Gabriel pulled Elena gently into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips against hers in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed their love forever!

The entire cathedral erupted into applause! Daniel cheered wildly, running up to wrap his small arms around both of their legs! Gabriel laughed, scooping Daniel up with one arm while keeping his other arm wrapped securely around Elena’s waist.

As they walked out of the cathedral together into the bright, warm afternoon sun, surrounded by cheering friends, loyal family, and the vibrant life of the city, Gabriel knew the dark shadows of his past were finally gone.

He had built a new empire—not of fear and blood, but of love, honor, and an unbreakable family that would stand strong for generations to come.
