Chapter 6 - A New Dawn at Ravenshore
Six months later.
The autumn leaves had turned to brilliant shades of gold, amber, and deep red, casting a warm, picturesque glow over the sprawling gardens of Ravenshore. The dark, heavy atmosphere that had once defined the Greenwich estate had completely vanished, replaced by the bright, chaotic energy of a new beginning.
The grand ballroom’s high arched windows were wide open, allowing the crisp, fresh ocean breeze to circulate through the rooms. The estate had been completely renovated, the sterile, old-money decor replaced with light, modern furnishings and colorful artwork.
Outside on the manicured lawns, dozens of children were running, laughing, and playing under the watchful eyes of community volunteers. Harper had officially converted the historic estate into the Langford-Kane Foundation’s flagship sanctuary—a state-of-the-art residential center and school for underprivileged children and survivors of domestic abuse.
Harper stood on the wide stone terrace, looking down at the children playing. She wore a simple, elegant cream-colored dress, her right hand completely healed, the only physical reminder of that fateful night being a faint, pale silver line near her wrist that she wore with quiet pride.
A pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a broad, warm chest.
"You did it, Harper," Dominic whispered, leaning down to press a soft, lingering kiss to the side of her neck. "This place finally has a soul."
Harper smiled, leaning her head back against his shoulder. "We did it, Dominic. I couldn't have built this sanctuary without your foundation’s support."
"I only provided the bricks, my love," Dominic said, turning her in his arms so he could look into her beautiful blue eyes, which were now glowing with a deep, peaceful happiness. "You provided the light."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box, opening it to reveal a simple, stunning emerald-cut diamond ring that caught the golden autumn sun.
"Harper," Dominic said, his voice rich with an immense, raw emotion. "Six months ago, you called me in the dark, and I promised to protect you. But the truth is... you are the one who saved me. You brought warmth, love, and a true purpose back into my life. I don't want to spend another day without you. Will you marry me?"
Tears of pure, overwhelming joy welled in Harper’s eyes. She looked at the ring, then at the man who had crossed heaven and hell to keep her safe, and finally at the beautiful, laughing children on the lawn.
"Yes, Dominic," she whispered, her voice choking with emotion. "Yes, a thousand times yes."
Dominic slipped the ring onto her finger and pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss that sealed their new beginning.
