Chapter 3: Justice and a New Dawn

Chapter 3: Justice and a New Dawn
Evelyn was backed into the corner of the grand library, her expensive dress torn, her hair disheveled. The wine glass she had been holding lay shattered on the floor. The mercenaries she hired were all groveling on the ground, zip-tied and guarded by elite operators.
The library doors swung open. Arthur Vance walked in.
"Arthur!" Evelyn gasped, instantly trying to force a sob, her acting skills kicking into overdrive. "Oh thank god you're here! These men... they broke in! They held me hostage! They were looking for Emma, I tried to stop them—"
"Save your breath, Evelyn," Arthur said, his voice dropping to a deadly, quiet frequency that made the room temperature feel like it dropped ten degrees.
He pulled out his phone and tapped the screen. A loud audio recording began to play through the library speakers. It was Evelyn’s voice from earlier: “Arthur Vance is dead weight now... Once the assets are liquidated and the girl is missing...”
Evelyn’s fake tears instantly stopped. Her face hardened into a mask of pure hatred. "You think you've won? You can't prove anything in a court of law! My lawyers will rip this illegal surveillance to shreds!"
"I don't need a court of law to ruin you, Evelyn," Arthur replied smoothly. "While you were busy trying to steal my paintings, my cyber-security team tracing your calls has already seized every single one of your offshore accounts. You are completely bankrupt. Furthermore, the federal authorities are currently raiding your brother's logistics company, which you used to smuggle stolen goods."
Evelyn stumbled backward, realizing the sheer scope of her defeat. She had tried to play chess with a grandmaster, and she had been checkmated before she even realized the game had started.
"Take her away," Arthur commanded. The security guards grabbed Evelyn, dragging her out of the mansion as she screamed curses and threats into the night.
Once the house was cleared, Arthur hurried down to the music room. He walked over to the grand piano, pressed a hidden button beneath the rim, and the secret trapdoor slid open.
Emma scrambled out of the opening and threw herself into her father's arms. Arthur held her tightly, burying his face in her hair.
"I've got you, sweetheart. You're safe. I'm so proud of you. You were so brave," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion—a rare sight for the stoic billionaire.
"I knew you would come, Daddy," Emma whispered, wiping away her final tears.
A few weeks later, the Vance mansion was fully restored. The broken doors were fixed, the stolen art was returned to its rightful walls, and the dark cloud that Evelyn had brought into their lives was entirely gone.

It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon. The windows were wide open, letting in a warm breeze and the scent of fresh blooming roses from the garden. Emma sat at the black grand piano, her fingers dancing gracefully across the keys, playing a bright, beautiful melody.
Arthur stood by the window, a warm smile on his face as he watched his daughter. They had lost a treacherous stepmother, but they had gained a deeper, unbreakable bond between father and daughter. They had faced the darkest night together, and now, they were finally ready to enjoy the bright future ahead.
