Chapter 2: The Billionaire's Counterattack

Chapter 2: The Billionaire's Counterattack
The storm outside raged on, mirroring the chaos inside the Vance estate. For the past forty minutes, Emma watched the security monitors like a hawk. She saw Evelyn directing the thieves, pointing out the most expensive antiques, the hidden wall safes, and the family heirlooms.
Evelyn thought she was winning. She thought she had won. She was already on her phone, calling a Swiss bank to coordinate the transfer of stolen bonds.
"Yes, Arthur Vance is dead weight now," Evelyn laughed into her Bluetooth earpiece, pacing the grand library. "Once the assets are liquidated and the girl is... 'missing,' I’ll file for sole control of the estate. The board of directors won't suspect a thing."
Emma clenched her fists. Arthur Vance is dead weight? Her father was a self-made titan. He had built an empire from nothing, and Evelyn thought she could just steal it in one night.
Suddenly, a loud, echoing chime resonated through the entire mansion. The lights flickered, turned red, and then dimmed into a low emergency mode.
On the monitors, Evelyn froze. The mercenaries stopped in their tracks.
"What is that?" Evelyn demanded, looking up at the security cameras. "Who touched the grid?"
"The mansion's lockdown sequence has been initiated from an external source," a computerized voice echoed through the house's PA system. All the heavy, reinforced steel shutters over the windows slammed shut simultaneously, sealing the mansion like a tomb. The main exit doors locked with a heavy, definitive thud.
Evelyn’s face drained of color. "No... no, this is supposed to be disabled!"
"Emma," her father's voice spoke through the bunker's intercom. "I am in the airspace above the estate. The local police have been paid off by Evelyn's accomplices, so I brought my own security force. It’s time to turn the tables."
Through one of the external cameras, Emma watched in awe as three massive, unmarked black helicopters descended through the thunderstorm, landing directly on the manicured front lawn. Heavily armed, elite private security operatives poured out, breaching the mansion's perimeter within seconds.
Inside, panic broke out.
"We're trapped!" one of the mercenaries yelled, running back into the foyer. "The windows are bulletproof steel! We can't get out!"
"Shut up!" Evelyn screamed, her perfect composure completely shattering. "Find the girl! She is our only leverage! If we have Arthur's daughter, he won't dare touch us!"
The men began frantically tearing the house apart, searching for Emma. They smashed doors, overturned furniture, and headed straight back toward the music room, realizing she must have vanished somewhere near the piano.
From the bunker, Emma saw them approaching her location on the monitor. They were going to find the secret lever sooner or later.
"Daddy, they're coming back to the music room," Emma reported, her heart racing again.
"Look at the red console to your left, Emma," Arthur instructed. "There is a button labeled 'Atmospheric Control.' Press the toggle for Zone 3."
Emma found the button and flipped it.
Instantly, a thick, harmless but blinding white fog began to pump into the music room and the surrounding hallways from the ventilation shafts. Within seconds, the mercenaries were coughing and stumbling blindly in the dense mist, unable to see their own hands in front of their faces.

Through the fog, the music room doors exploded open. But it wasn't the thieves. It was Arthur Vance’s private extraction team. They moved like ghosts through the smoke, neutralizing the disoriented mercenaries one by one with silent, non-lethal precision.
Emma watched the monitor in fascination as her father himself entered the foyer. Clad in a sharp black trench coat, completely unfazed by the rain or the chaos, Arthur Vance walked into his home like a king reclaiming his throne.
