Chapter 5 - The Truth on the Airwaves

At 7:00 AM the following morning, the sun broke through the clouds, painting the skyline of Chicago in brilliant hues of gold and orange.
Inside the high-tech conference room of WCN-TV News, Chicago’s largest broadcast network, lead investigative reporter Sarah Jenkins sat across from Ethan, Clara, and Leo. On the central glass table lay a flash drive containing the raw, unedited source code of the Vance AI scanner, along with Maya's original ultrasound video showing the micro-cyst that the scanner had missed.
Sarah Jenkins took off her reading glasses, her face pale as she looked over the technical data.
"Ethan... this is devastating," Sarah said softly. "This code proves that Donald Sterling knowingly suppressed warning reports from your lead software engineers four months ago. He bypassed safety protocols to ensure the IPO stayed on schedule."
"He almost killed my daughter to protect a stock price," Ethan said, his voice cold and steady. "And he tried to run my family off the road last night to destroy this evidence."
"Are you ready to go live with this?" Sarah asked, looking him dead in the eye. "Once this broadcast airs, Vance Technologies stock will plummet, and Sterling’s legal team will come at you with everything they have."
Ethan reached across the table, taking Clara’s hand, while his other hand rested securely on Leo’s shoulder.
"My family is safe," Ethan said, looking at Leo with immense pride. "And thanks to this young man, the truth is going to save thousands of other children who might have been scanned by those broken machines."
At 8:00 AM sharp—the exact moment the New York Stock Exchange opened—Sarah Jenkins stepped onto the live national news set.
"Good morning. We begin today with a breaking investigative report on Vance Technologies, the tech giant preparing for a multi-billion-dollar public offering this morning..."
Across the country, millions of screens displayed the live broadcast.
In his high-rise corner office on Wall Street, Donald Sterling sat watching his sixty-inch television screen. As Sarah Jenkins laid out the evidence—showing the suppressed code, the medical scans, and naming Sterling directly in a federal fraud investigation—Sterling’s hands began to shake violently.
On his Bloomberg terminal, Vance Technologies stock crashed before it could even open, dropping eighty percent in value within twelve minutes!
Federal agents from the Securities and Exchange Commission and officers from the Chicago Police Department walked into Sterling’s office building, holding an arrest warrant signed by a federal judge.

As the handcuffs clicked around Sterling’s wrists, he looked up at the television screen one last time.
The screen showed Ethan and Clara Vance standing outside the news studio holding baby Maya. Standing proudly between them, wearing a brand-new blue winter coat and holding Ethan’s hand, was Leo.
