Chapter 4 - The Exposure

By 10:00 AM the following morning, the front pages of every major newspaper and digital news outlet in America were dominated by a single, explosive headline:
"THE LOST SWAN RETURNS: PRIMA BALLERINA ACCUSED OF POISONING AND EXTORTION"
At the Royal Grand Theater, a emergency press conference had been called in the main auditorium. Over two hundred journalists, camera crews, and critics filled the seating area, the flashing of camera bulbs illuminating the stage like lightning.
Victoria Vance stood near the podium backstage, her hands shaking violently as she adjusted her designer jacket. Her lawyer stood beside her, looking panicked.
"Victoria, you shouldn't be here," her lawyer whispered frantically. "The board is revoking your contract! Julian Hayes has handed over private medical files and historical police reports to the District Attorney's office!"
"Shut up!" Victoria snapped, her eyes bloodshot. "Julian is bluffing! He has no physical proof of what happened fifteen years ago! It’s my word against a dying woman's!"
She pushed open the backstage doors and walked out onto the main stage, putting on a forced, dazzling smile for the cameras.
"Good morning, members of the press," Victoria began, her voice strained as she stepped up to the microphone. "I am here to address the tragic, sensationalized rumors circulating about my family. My sister Eleanor was a deeply troubled woman who left this company of her own accord—"
"Lies."
A calm, powerful voice resonated through the theater’s sound system.
The side stage doors opened, and Julian Hayes stepped into the spotlight. He wore a crisp black suit, his expression cold and unyielding. Beside him stood the Chief of Police and the District Attorney for the State of New York.
The press room erupted into chaos! Cameras flashed wildly as reporters shouted questions!
"Director Hayes! Is it true Eleanor Vance is alive?" "Was Eleanor poisoned?" "Who is the little girl from last night?"
Julian walked up to the podium, gently brushing Victoria aside. He placed a clear plastic evidence bag onto the podium table. Inside was a small, dusty glass vial labeled with an industrial chemical name, along with a yellowed journal.
"Fifteen years ago," Julian spoke into the microphone, his voice echoed clearly across the room, "my principal dancer Eleanor Vance was systematically poisoned with a rare organophosphate compound. Yesterday, forensic investigators searched Victoria Vance’s private storage unit in Brooklyn—a unit rented under a shell company."
Victoria turned pale as death, taking a sharp step backward.
"In that unit," Julian continued, his dark eyes fixing onto Victoria with absolute contempt, "investigators found the original lost music scores for The Swan's Sacrifice, Eleanor's personal journals documenting Victoria’s threats, and the remaining chemical vials matching Eleanor's medical pathology reports."
Gasps of horror echoed through the auditorium!
"Victoria Vance," the District Attorney stepped forward, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his coat pocket, "you are under arrest for attempted murder, aggravated assault, grand larceny, and corporate extortion. You have the right to remain silent."
"No! Get away from me!" Victoria shrieked, backing away toward the edge of the stage. "I built this company! I am the Prima Ballerina! She was nothing! She was weak!"
The police officers moved swiftly, grabbing Victoria’s arms, pulling them behind her back, and snapping the handcuffs onto her wrists. She kicked and screamed as she was dragged off the stage in front of rolling news cameras, her golden reputation utterly destroyed in seconds.

Julian turned back to the microphone, looking directly into the primary camera lens.
"In three months," Julian announced, a soft, proud smile touching his lips for the first time in fifteen years, "the Royal Grand Theater will host the true premiere of The Swan's Sacrifice. The finale will be performed by the rightful heir of the Vance legacy."
