Chapter 5 - Dawn of Justice

The struggle in the wine cellar was brief and brutal.

Julianna fought like a cornered animal, scratching and clawing at Arthur’s face, but Arthur’s physical dominance was absolute. He pinned her arms behind her back, slamming her face down onto the cold concrete floor, pinning her with his knee until Marcus and three estate guards rushed into the cellar, securing her with heavy plastic zip-ties.

"GET OFF ME! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!" Julianna screamed, her hair matted with sweat and wine, her refined persona completely replaced by pure, maniacal insanity. "I AM MRS. VANCE! EVERYTHING IN THIS HOUSE BELONGS TO ME!"

"You are a murderer," Arthur growled, standing over her, his face dark with absolute contempt. "And you will spend the rest of your pathetic life in a steel cell."

Arthur turned instantly to Lily, who was leaning against the vault door, coughing from the lingering smoke, her hands trembling as she lowered the pistol.

"Lily!" Arthur rushed to her, pulling her into his arms, holding her tightly against his chest. "Are you hit? Are you okay?!"

"I'm... I'm fine," Lily gasped, leaning into his warmth, tears washing clean tracks through the soot on her cheeks. "The boys... the boys are inside!"

Arthur rushed into the panic room, picking up Leo and Toby in his massive arms, carrying them out into the fresh air of the upper levels where paramedics—who had just arrived alongside a fleet of state police cruisers—were waiting.

Within an hour, the estate was secured.

State police investigators, federal arson investigators, and homicide detectives swarmed the Barrington Hills property. Julianna Vance and her surviving mercenaries were placed in heavy restraints and loaded into armored police vans under the direct supervision of the State Attorney General, who had personally taken over the high-profile case.

As dawn broke over the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of pink and gold, the steel shutters of the mansion were raised, letting the warm morning sunlight flood through the tall windows.

On the grand lawn outside, paramedics checked Leo and Toby. Aside from minor smoke inhalation, the boys were completely unharmed. They sat on the bumper of an ambulance, wrapped in warm yellow blankets, drinking hot chocolate.

Lily sat beside them, holding both of their small hands.

Arthur walked over, stepping out of the mansion after giving his final statement to the lead detective. He looked tired, bruised, and emotionally exhausted, but for the first time in seven years, the heavy, dark shadow over his eyes was gone.

He sat down on the ambulance bumper beside Lily.

Leo looked up at Arthur, then at Lily, his little brow furrowed in thought. "Daddy... is the bad lady really gone now?"

"Yes, Leo," Arthur said, reaching out to gently touch his son's cheek. "She's gone forever. She will never, ever come back."

Toby leaned his head against Lily’s shoulder, taking a small sip of his hot chocolate. "Does that mean Lily can stay with us? Forever?"

Arthur looked at Lily. The morning sun caught her eyes, making them shine with a warmth that felt so much like Clara, yet so uniquely her own—a woman who had suffered, survived, and fought with everything she had to protect her sister's children.

Lily held Arthur’s gaze, her heart racing in her chest as she waited for his answer.

Arthur reached out, his large, warm hand covering Lily’s hand, resting over the small hands of his twin sons.

"Lily isn't going anywhere, boys," Arthur said softly, his voice full of deep, undeniable sincerity. "She belongs here. With us."
