Chapter 4 - The Cellar Siege

Deep beneath the mansion, inside the silent, illuminated panic room, Lily sat on the leather sofa, holding Leo and Toby close to her side. The room was equipped with plush furniture, a small kitchenette, and security monitors displaying live feeds from the house's internal cameras.
Suddenly, the monitor displaying the wine cellar feed flickered.
Lily watched in terror as Lawson and Julianna appeared on the screen, carrying two heavy metal canisters toward the stainless-steel air intake valve mounted on the brick wall outside the vault door.
"What are they doing?" Lily whispered to herself, her heart racing frantically.
On the screen, Lawson pulled out a blowtorch, igniting a thick, chemical smoke canister and attaching it directly to the air filtration duct!
Within thirty seconds, a low, buzzing alarm began to chime inside the panic room. The digital display on the wall reading AIR QUALITY: 100% began to rapidly drop.
AIR QUALITY: 85%... 70%... 55%...
A faint, acrid smell of burning chemical sulfur began to seep through the emergency vents overhead.
Leo began to cough violently, his small chest heaving. "Mommy Lily... it hurts to breathe! My eyes are burning!"
Toby buried his face in Lily’s lap, sobbing uncontrollably. "I can't breathe! I can't breathe!"
"Cover your mouths with your shirts!" Lily yelled, rushing over to the sink, soaking two small towels in cold water, and pressing them over the boys' faces.
The digital display flashed bright red: WARNING: TOXIC CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTED. CRITICAL FAILURE IMMINENT. MANUAL OVERRIDE RECOMMENDED.
"Open the door, Lily!" Julianna’s voice echoed through the external intercom speaker, dripping with malicious glee. "Open the door and give me my sons, or watch them choke to death in your little steel cage!"
Lily looked at the boys. Leo’s face was turning red, his small hands clutching his throat as he gasped for clean oxygen.
She knew if she stayed inside, the boys would lose consciousness within two minutes. If she opened the door, Julianna would shoot her—but the boys might survive if Arthur arrived in time.
‘Save my boys, Lily. Don't let her take my boys.’ Clara’s dying voice echoed in Lily’s mind.
Lily reached into her pocket, pulling out the 9mm pistol Arthur had given her. She checked the safety, disengaging it with a sharp click. She pressed the wet towels firmly onto Leo and Toby’s faces.
"Stay behind the sofa, my sweet angels," Lily commanded, her voice dropping into a fierce, unbreakable tone. "Cover your ears, close your eyes, and do not move until I tell you to."
"Lily, no!" Leo whimpered.
"I love you both so much," Lily whispered, kissing their foreheads.
She walked over to the heavy vault control panel, took a deep breath of what little clean air remained, and slammed her hand onto the manual release button!
PNEUMATIC HISS!
The heavy titanium lock disengaged, and the vault door slowly swung outward into the wine cellar!
Lawson stood waiting right outside the door, raising his submachine gun with a cruel sneer!
BANG! BANG!
Lily didn't wait for him to aim! She stepped through the doorway and squeezed the trigger twice!
The first bullet struck Lawson straight in the chest; the second caught him in the shoulder! The massive mercenary staggered backward, dropping his weapon, crashing heavily into a rack of expensive wine bottles that shattered around him in a cascade of red liquid and glass!
"YOU BITCH!" Julianna shrieked from behind the brick pillar!
Julianna stepped out, raising her revolver, aiming directly at Lily’s forehead!
"DIE!" Julianna screamed!
CRASH!
Before Julianna could pull the trigger, the heavy wooden door of the wine cellar was kicked off its hinges!

Arthur charged into the cellar like a demon unleashed from hell! He didn't fire his weapon—he tackled Julianna with full force, slamming her violently against the brick wall!
The revolver flew from Julianna’s hand, clattering across the concrete floor!
