Chapter 3 - The Woman They Never Counted

Charles expected money.
A settlement.
An apology.
Instead Elise handed him a thin folder.
Inside were photographs.
Business dinners.
Private flights.
Hotel elevators.
Damon.
Vivienne.
Always together.
Always "working."
"I hired investigators three months ago."
Charles stared.
"You knew?"
"I hoped I was wrong."
"Were they having an affair?"
"I honestly don't know."
She closed the folder.
"That stopped mattering the moment he chose another woman's hand over mine while I delivered his child."
Charles lowered his head.
For the first time...
he felt ashamed of the son he had raised.
Across town, Vivienne's confidence began to crack.
The casino meeting had leaked.
Photos surfaced online.
Commentators noticed Damon disappearing minutes after the contracts were signed.
Rumors spread faster than facts.
By evening, shareholders were asking questions.
That same night, Elise received a visitor she hadn't expected.
Margaret Kane.
Chairwoman of Kane Holdings.
The woman whose approval had been worth more than the meeting Damon chose over his wife.
Margaret smiled gently at Aurora.
"I've wanted to meet the child."
Elise frowned.
"You know who I am?"
Margaret laughed softly.
"My dear..."
"I postponed the final vote."
Elise blinked.
"I watched your husband ignore seven calls."

She stood.
"I don't invest in men who abandon their families."
