Chapter 5 - A Real Place at the Table

Six months later.

The dark, imposing atmosphere of the Moretti Mansion in Long Island had completely transformed. The heavy blackout curtains had been replaced with bright, sunlit shears. The grand gardens were blooming with white roses, and the sound of children's laughter echoed across the marble terraces.

The pink nursery that had once been a symbol of betrayal had been repainted in warm cream and light blue—rebuilt as an art studio and library for Emma.

Outside on the stone patio overlooking the ocean, a large dining table was set for dinner.

Sophia sat in a linen dress, her hair flowing softly in the summer breeze, pouring fresh lemonade. Beside her, Emma was sitting on a high stool, carefully placing fresh flowers into a vase.

Alessandro walked out onto the patio. He wore a simple white linen shirt, his expression peaceful, his eyes glowing with a warmth his business associates would never have recognized.

He walked up behind Sophia, placing his hands gently on her shoulders, leaning down to press a soft kiss to her temple.

“Everything is ready for tonight,” Alessandro said warmly.

“Are you sure you want to announce it to the entire council?” Sophia asked softly, looking up into his eyes.

“I’m more than sure,” Alessandro smiled.

That evening, the senior leaders of the Moretti business network gathered in the mansion’s formal dining room. These were men who had known Alessandro for decades as a ruthless, unyielding leader.

Alessandro stood at the head of the table. But he did not stand alone. Sophia sat at his right hand, and little Emma sat beside her, happily coloring in her drawing book.

“Gentlemen,” Alessandro announced, his voice carrying an absolute, unquestioned authority. “Tonight marks a permanent change in the Moretti operations. All illicit gambling and extortion arms are officially dissolved. We are transitioning entirely into legitimate real estate, logistics, and international trade.”

A few older lieutenants exchanged surprised looks, but no one dared object.

“Furthermore,” Alessandro continued, looking down at Sophia with profound tenderness, “I am officially naming Sophia Rossi as the Director of the Moretti Charitable Foundation, which will fund education and housing for underprivileged families across New York.”

He stepped down from the head of the table, walked over to Emma, and picked her up in his arms.

“And this is Emma,” Alessandro declared, looking around the room with sharp, protective eyes. “She is my daughter in every way that matters. Anyone who honors me will honor her.”

The men stood up, raising their glasses in unanimous respect.
