CHAPTER 8: The Matriarch's Fall

The doors of the courtroom burst open. Two federal agents walked in, accompanied by the true, un-bribable Chief District Attorney.
"What is the meaning of this?" Eleanor demanded, standing up. "This is a private family matter!"
"Not anymore, Eleanor," Isabella said, standing up to face her. "While you were busy fabricating custody papers, Adrian and I handed over the offshore transaction logs to the Federal Forensic Audit Bureau. The lead federal agent stepped toward Eleanor. "Eleanor Whitmore, you are under arrest for grand larceny, embezzlement, bank fraud, and corporate racketeering."
Eleanor looked around frantically, looking at her lawyers, but they were already stepping away from her, realizing the ship was sinking. She looked at Adrian, her eyes pleading for the first time. "Adrian... I did it for the family name! To keep us afloat!"
"No, Mother," Adrian said, his voice filled with a profound sadness but absolute certainty. "You did it for yourself. You destroyed this family the moment you touched my son."

As the handcuffs clicked around Eleanor’s wrists, she looked at Isabella. "You ruined me," she hissed.
Isabella walked up to her, looking down with absolute calm. "You ruined yourself. I just recorded it."
