Chapter 5 - The Labor of Justice

The next few hours were a whirlwind. Julian was escorted out of the building in handcuffs, screaming threats that withered into pathetic pleas for mercy as the media began to gather outside the clinic. The hospital, once his kingdom of fear, turned into a sanctuary of support for Chloe.

But the stress had taken its toll. As the sirens faded, Chloe doubled over. "Mom... it’s time."

The C-section had to happen, but not the way he planned. I stood by her side in the operating room, holding her hand, surrounded by doctors who were shocked at the truth but committed to saving her. I watched as the surgeon—a woman I had specifically requested—worked with precision. I didn't let Chloe go for a second. When the cry finally rang out, it was the sound of a new beginning. My grandson was healthy, and as I watched them lift him into the light, I knew the shadow of his father would never touch him.
