Chapter 6 - The Light in the House

Six months later.
Spring had returned to northern Manhattan, turning the wooded hills around the Moretti estate into a sea of vibrant green leaves and blooming white cherry blossoms.
The heavy, dark curtains that had covered the windows of the grand mansion for three years were pulled wide open, letting warm, golden sunlight flood into every room.
In the gardens behind the house, the fountain was running again, its clear water sparkling in the sun.
Sophia Sutton stood near the kitchen patio, wearing a bright linen dress, holding a tray of fresh lemonade and warm cookies. Her face was relaxed, her eyes no longer haunted by fear. She was now the estate's permanent estate manager, living in a beautiful guest house on the property with complete financial security for the rest of her life.
On the manicured lawn, seven-year-old Emma was running through the grass, chasing a Golden Retriever puppy that Alessandro had given her for her birthday. Her cheerful laughter echoed through the quiet spring air—pure, sweet, and full of uninhibited joy.
Alessandro sat on the sunlit terrace, wearing a simple white linen shirt, a cup of espresso resting on the table beside him.
He looked down at his desk. Beside his ledger lay a small, framed photograph of Isabella and Lily, both of them smiling radiantly at a summer beach.
Beside that photograph sat the bright purple toy walkie-talkie—cleaned, polished, and resting on a stand of velvet.
Emma came running up the stone steps of the terrace, her puppy tumbling behind her, her cheeks flushed with rosy warmth.
"Mr. Alessandro!" Emma chirped, stopping beside his chair, holding up a small daisy she had picked from the garden. "Look! I found a flower for Lily!"
Alessandro smiled—a genuine, warm smile that reached his eyes for the first time in three years.
He reached down, picked Emma up, and set her gently on his knee. He took the daisy and carefully placed it beside the framed photograph of his wife and daughter.
"Thank you, Emma," Alessandro whispered softly, pulling the little girl into a gentle hug. "Lily would have loved it."
He looked out over the sunlit gardens, hearing the rustle of the spring wind through the trees.
The estate was no longer a cold, dark tomb of grief and secrets. It had become a place of life, safety, and new beginnings.

The little girl who had once whispered beside the memorial candles had saved a grieving father's life, brought down a kingdom of traitors, and brought light back into a house that had been dark for far too long.
Alessandro pulled Emma close, holding her safe against his chest, knowing that the ghosts of his past were finally at peace, and his future had finally begun.
