Chapter 2 - The Sound of Shattered Illusions

The air in the suite was thick with the metallic tang of blood and the suffocating scent of Isabella’s expensive, floral perfume. Marcus Thorne stood paralyzed, not by uncertainty, but by the sheer, cold horror of seeing his wife—the woman he had sworn to protect with every fiber of his being—curled on the ground, shielding their unborn child.
"Khloe!"
The sound of his voice wasn't a roar; it was a broken promise. Marcus lunged forward, ignoring the shattered glass that crunched beneath his polished shoes. He dropped to his knees, his hands trembling as he hovered over her, afraid to touch her for fear of causing more pain.
"Don't touch me," Khloe whispered, her voice a ragged thread. "The baby... Marcus, please."
"Look at her," Isabella shrieked, her voice shifting back into that perfect, practiced hysteria. "She tried to kill me, Marcus! She’s been unstable for weeks. She knew I was here to see you, and she just snapped!"
Elaine, the event coordinator, looked from the bloodied floor to Isabella, then to Marcus. She was a woman who had navigated the shark-infested waters of the Chicago elite for decades, and she knew a performance when she saw one. She didn't say a word, but her hand moved discreetly to her pocket, where her phone was already recording.
Marcus turned. His eyes, usually a calm, piercing gray, were now darkened by a lethal, simmering rage. He looked at Isabella—a woman he had known for years, a woman he had once considered a friend—and saw only a monster.
"Get out," Marcus whispered.
Isabella froze, her tears stopping instantly. "What?"
"I said get out of my sight before I forget that you are a woman," he snarled, his voice vibrating with a restraint that was far more terrifying than any shout. "If Khloe or our child loses a single breath because of you, I will burn your reputation, your family’s legacy, and everything you have ever touched to the ground."
"You don't understand!" Isabella cried, her facade splintering. "She’s a gold-digger! She doesn't belong in our world!"
"She is my world," Marcus said, finally looking at her. The coldness in his eyes was absolute. "And you? You’re finished."

As the security team rushed in, they weren't there to restrain Khloe. They were there to escort Isabella out. But before they could grab her, the suite door opened again. A tall, imposing man in a charcoal suit stepped in. It was Arthur Vance, Khloe’s uncle, a man whose name was whispered in the corridors of power with a mixture of fear and reverence. He held a tablet in his hand.
"The security footage is already live-streaming to the board of directors, the police chief, and the national news outlets, Isabella," Arthur said, his voice as smooth as polished stone. "I think you should start looking for a lawyer. You’re going to need a very expensive one."
