Chapter 5 - The Teterboro TrapThe rain was pouring in dark sheets over the tarmac at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.

Inside a private hangar, a sleek Gulfstream jet sat idling, its engines emitting a low, powerful whine. A small black sedan pulled up beside the staircase, and three figures rushed out under umbrellas: Harold, Tyler, and Dr. Patricia Winters—the family physician who had turned a blind eye to my injuries at the birthday party. It turned out Patricia had been helping Harold launder money through fake medical consulting firms for years.
Tyler was wearing a heavy trench coat, hiding his ankle monitor, which he had cut off an hour earlier using industrial wire cutters.
"Hurry up!" Harold yelled over the roar of the jet engines, grabbing a metallic briefcase filled with untraceable bearer bonds. "The pilot says we have a ten-minute window before air traffic control locks down the runway!"
"Where's Lauren?" Tyler demanded, looking back nervously. "She was supposed to meet us here with Mason!"
"Forget her!" Harold snapped. "She's dead weight! Once we land in Montenegro, we can buy whatever we want!"
Suddenly, high-powered floodlights blinded the hangar, illuminating the torrential rain like silver needles.
"STAMFORD POLICE AND FEDERAL MARSHALS! DROP YOUR BAGS AND GET ON THE GROUND NOW!"
The roar of megaphones blasted through the hangar as six armored police vehicles smashed through the hangar’s side doors, completely blocking the jet's exit path. Dozens of tactical officers spilled out, laser sights painting red dots across Harold and Tyler’s chests.
Harold dropped his briefcase, his hands flying into the air. "Wait! I am Harold Vance! This is a misunderstanding!"
"Shut up, Dad!" Tyler shrieked, panicking. He pulled a concealed handgun from his coat pocket, grabbing Dr. Patricia Winters and pulling her in front of him as a human shield. "Get back! Get back or I'll shoot her!"
Patricia screamed in pure terror. "Tyler, no! Put it down!"
From behind the frontline of SWAT officers, a large black van lowered its side ramp.
I rolled out onto the wet asphalt, shielded by Detective Miller and Sarah Chen. I held a portable microphone connected to the police cruiser's PA system.
"Tyler!" my voice echoed loudly across the metallic walls of the hangar.
Tyler blinked through the blinding floodlights, recognizing me immediately. "Bridget?! You... you brought them here?!"
"Put the gun down, Tyler," I said, my voice cutting through the storm with absolute authority. "Lauren isn't coming. She's at a safehouse with Mason. You are never going to hurt her, or anyone else, ever again."
"You destroyed my life!" Tyler screamed, his eyes wild, tears mixing with the rain on his face. "I was supposed to be the heir! I was the son! You were nothing!"
"I was the sister who covered for you until you tried to kill me," I replied coldly. "Look at yourself, Tyler. You're hiding behind a cowardly doctor, holding a gun, terrified. You were never an heir. You were just a tyrant protected by an old man’s money. And the money is gone."
Harold looked at his son, then at the surrounding officers, realizing there was no way out. The illusion was completely shattered.
"Drop the gun, Tyler," Harold whispered, his voice finally breaking. "It's over."
"No!" Tyler sobbed.
"DROP IT!" Detective Miller roared.
Tyler’s hand trembled violently. He looked at me—sitting in my wheelchair in the rain, unbothered, unfazed, completely in control—and realized he had lost every single battle he had ever fought against me.
Slowly, his fingers loosened. The gun clattered onto the wet concrete.
SWAT officers instantly rushed forward, slamming Tyler and Harold onto the ground, shoving their faces into the cold rainwater as heavy steel handcuffs clicked around their wrists.

As they dragged Tyler past my van, he looked at me, completely defeated, sobbing like a child.
I didn't smile. I didn't mock him. I simply watched as the doors of the police transport van slammed shut, locking him away in the dark forever.
