Chapter 6 - The Promise Kept

Two years later.
The small cottage in the countryside was quiet, save for the sound of rain tapping against the roof and the soft hum of the fireplace.
I sat on the porch, looking out at the rolling hills. My life was no longer filled with spreadsheets and corporate politics. I was working for a non-profit, doing the kind of work that actually helped people, while Nathan had launched a small, boutique consulting firm that helped start-ups grow without the toxicity of corporate greed.
He came out onto the porch, carrying two cups of tea. He didn't look like the billionaire CEO anymore; he wore a soft sweater and had a smudge of dirt on his cheek from gardening.

I leaned back into him, feeling the warmth of his chest. "Perfect."
"I was thinking," he said, resting his chin on my shoulder. "Today is our anniversary. I was thinking we should do something special."
"Like what?"
"Like remembering the day we met," he smiled. "The day I stopped signing a contract and started listening to the only thing that mattered."
He turned me around, looking into my eyes with the same intense devotion he had shown me since that first day.
"You wanted someone who chose your heart first," he whispered, tracing the line of my jaw. "I’ve spent two years trying to show you that you’re the best decision I ever made."

I reached up, taking his hand, feeling the strength and the gentleness that had defined our entire life together. I was twenty-eight when I confessed my secret, feeling lost and afraid. Now, I knew exactly who I was, and I knew exactly who I belonged to.
We stood there for a long time, watching the rain wash the world clean, knowing that the fairytale wasn't a story we had read—it was the life we had chosen to build, one day, one conversation, and one heartbeat at a time. The billionaire had lost an empire, but he had gained a soul, and I had finally found the love I had been waiting for my entire life.
