Chapter 6 - The True Throne

The summer sun was setting over Lake Michigan, casting a brilliant, golden glow across the terrace of my family’s estate. The crystal chandeliers in the grand ballroom were lit once more, but tonight, the atmosphere was entirely different.
There were no social climbers, no corporate executioners, and no fake smiles. The room was filled with the honest, hardworking employees of Vance Holdings, the medical staff who had helped me coordinate my recovery trap, and the people who truly cared about the future of our legacy.
I stood near the stone balustrade, wearing a classic black tuxedo, looking out at the calm blue water. The sound of soft laughter and classical music drifted from the open French doors behind me.
A light footstep echoed on the stone, and Clara stepped out onto the terrace. She wore a breathtaking, floor-length emerald silk dress that complemented her eyes perfectly. She looked like absolute royalty, a sharp contrast to the girl who had knelt in the dirt to fix a gray blanket six months ago.
"The guests are asking for the CEO," she said, a playful smile touching her lips as she stood beside me, the cool lake breeze rustling her dress.
"The CEO is currently captivated by his Director of Philanthropy," I replied, turning to look down at her, my heart filled with an unshakeable, profound happiness.
I reached into my pocket, my fingers wrapping around a small, velvet box—not the one that held my grandfather's ring, but a new one, containing a flawless, brilliant sapphire ring that matched the purity of her soul.
"Clara," I said, taking her hand, my voice dropping into a low, earnest register. "Six months ago, in that ballroom, I thought my life was surrounded by darkness. I thought everyone I trusted was a lie. But you showed me that true loyalty isn't something you can buy with a corporate share. It’s built on kindness, courage, and truth."
Her breath caught in her throat as I lowered myself onto one knee on the stone terrace.
"You stood by me when I was sitting in a wheelchair pretending to have nothing," I said, looking up into her beautiful, tear-filled eyes. "I want to stand by you for the rest of my life while we build an empire of good. Clara Jenkins, will you marry me?"
"Yes," she whispered, a radiant tear of pure joy rolling down her cheek as she nodded frantically. "Yes, Ethan. A thousand times, yes."

I slid the sapphire ring onto her finger, standing up to fold her into a deep, passionate hug. From inside the ballroom, the crowd of true friends and loyal employees erupted into a thunderous, deafening applause, their cheers echoing across the water under the beautiful Chicago sky.
I looked down at my beautiful fiancée, knowing that the car crash hadn't been a tragedy at all. It had been the ultimate purification. I had lost a fake world of scavengers and vultures, and in return, I had stood up from that wheelchair to claim a true kingdom—built on an unshakeable love, an empire of honor, and a future that no betrayal could ever tear down.
