Chapter 6 - The True Sanctuary

One year later.

The ocean waves broke gently against the pristine white sand of a private cove in northern Maine. The air was cool and crisp, carrying the scent of pine needles and saltwater through the open glass terrace of a beautiful, custom-built timber estate hidden deep within a protected coastal reserve.

There were no high-rises here. No corrupt politicians, no rival syndicates, and no names spoken in fearful whispers through the dark alleys of Chicago.

I had spent the last twelve months systematically liquidating my domestic operations in Illinois, transitioning the entire Harrison network into legitimate international maritime logistics and blind philanthropic trusts. The empire was still mine, but the violence had been completely buried, replaced by a legacy of absolute security.

I stood on the wide wooden deck, holding a warm mug of coffee, watching the morning sun illuminate the water.

Two warm arms wrapped around my waist from behind, and a soft cheek pressed against my back. Grace leaned into me, her breathing peaceful and synchronized with mine. She was wearing a thick knit sweater, her skin radiant, completely clear of the tension and fear that had once threatened to break her spirit.

"What are you thinking about, Mr. Harrison?" she asked, a beautiful, teasing smile in her voice.

"I was just thinking about our old bedroom in Chicago," I murmured, turning around in her embrace and locking my hands behind her waist, looking into the bright, clear eyes of the woman who had fought to protect my soul. "About how lucky I was that Mrs. Turner couldn't keep a secret."

Grace laughed, a beautiful, musical sound that filled the coastal air, carrying over the roar of the ocean. She reached up, her fingers gently smoothing the hair away from my forehead, her touch warm and completely devoid of tremors.

"It was the best mistake we ever made, Elias," she whispered, leaning up on her tiptoes to press a soft, deep kiss against my lips. "You went under the bed to find a victim, and you ended up uncovering a partner."

Hand in hand, we walked down the wooden steps of the deck, our feet sinking into the soft, warm sand of the beach as the sun rose higher in the sky. The shadows of the past had finally been outrun, the wolves had been cleared from the board, and here, on the edge of the world, our true sanctuary had finally begun.
