Chapter 2 - The Cracks in the Facade

Grant Holloway sat in his glass-walled office, overlooking the city skyline, feeling invincible. He had cleared the slate. The triplets were an investment in his legacy, and once he had sole custody, he would hire the best nannies money could buy to raise them, free from the "clutter" of a wife who had almost died on him.

His phone buzzed. It was a notification from his lead financial analyst. “Sir, there’s a discrepancy in the Q3 projections. The liquidity pools are… behaving strangely.”

Grant frowned. "Fix it. That’s what I pay you for."

He turned his attention to his email. There was a notification from the board of directors. A special meeting had been called. Agenda: Review of Executive Conduct.

His pulse quickened. He tapped the desk impatiently. "Ridiculous," he muttered. He reached for his phone to call his mistress, Clara, but his screen went black. Then, a red notification flashed: Access Denied. Account Suspended due to Internal Audit.

Panic, cold and sharp, flickered in his gut. He grabbed his landline, but the dial tone was dead. The silence in his office suddenly felt oppressive, heavy with the weight of something he couldn't control.

Outside, in the hospital, I watched the live feed of his office on my tablet. My recovery was slow, but every ounce of my energy was now focused on the chess match. My lawyer, a shark named Marcus Thorne, appeared on the screen via video call.

"The audit is hitting his private equity firm, Elena," Marcus said, his face grim. "By tomorrow, his credit rating will be downgraded to junk. The 'Fidelity Safeguard' isn't just freezing his assets; it’s exposing the embezzlement he’s been conducting to fund his lifestyle outside of your marriage."

I looked at the photos of my babies on the screen. "He wanted to erase me, Marcus. I want him to understand exactly what he lost."

"He’s already losing his grip," Marcus replied. "His board is terrified. They know that if the trust pulls its funding, the company defaults by Friday."

I felt a surge of strength. I wasn't just a mother fighting for her children; I was a woman taking back her empire. Grant thought he was a titan, but he was a man built on my foundation. And I was ready to pull the rug out from under him.
