Chapter 2 - The Red Seal Protocol

The chaos inside the ballroom erupted like a volatile chemical reaction. Guests began scrambling toward the exits, eager to distance themselves from the radioactive fallout of a billionaire family’s public collapse. Waitstaff abandoned their trays, and the glittering champagne glasses shattered on the marble floor as panic took hold.
Victoria stood perfectly still as two federal agents stepped onto the balcony, their hands resting near their holsters. Her mind, trained for decades in high-stakes corporate warfare, was frantically calculating, seeking a loophole, a backdoor, a political favor she could call in to stop the bleeding.
"Agent Vance," Victoria said, her voice instantly shifting back into its polished, untouchable corporate cadence. She held her chin high, refusing to let the cameras catch her flinching. "This is an egregious misunderstanding based on stolen, unverified data provided by a disgruntled individual seeking to extort my family. My legal counsel, led by Arthur Pendelton, will have this warrant dismissed within the hour. I suggest you step out of my home before you face a catastrophic civil lawsuit for malicious prosecution."
Agent Vance didn't even blink. She pulled a digital tablet from her briefcase, displaying a live document bearing a glowing, digital red seal. "This isn't a standard domestic warrant, Mrs. Sterling. This is a Red Seal Protocol authorization from the Department of Justice and the Treasury. The data dump we received less than four minutes ago didn't just contain old spreadsheets. It contained live routing numbers for active transfers occurring right now from Sterling Shipping’s primary operating accounts into an unlisted bank in Switzerland. It bears your personal biometric authorization stamp."
Victoria’s eyes narrowed. She shot a venomous glare toward Elena. "You... you didn't just release old records. You triggered a live trap."
"I didn't trigger anything, Victoria," Elena replied softly, leaning against Julian’s arm. "Your own automated system did. The moment the encryption key inside my ring was severed from the estate’s network, your backup protocol assumed the empire was under hostile takeover and attempted to liquidate the emergency reserves to your private Swiss account. I didn't steal your money. Your own paranoia pulled the trigger."
"You manipulative little bitch!" Victoria screamed, abandoning all pretense of high-society elegance. She lunged toward Elena, her manicured nails clawing at the air, but Julian stepped firmly in front of her, his tall frame completely blocking his mother from touching his bride.
"Don't touch her," Julian thundered, his voice reverberating off the soaring marble ceilings. "It's over, Mother. Look around you. The board members are already leaving. The press is outside the gates. You did this to yourself the moment you thought you could treat people like disposable assets."
The two federal agents stepped between Julian and Victoria, gently but firmly grabbing her arms. The heavy steel handcuffs clicked around her wrists, the sharp, metallic sound echoing louder than any wedding bell ever could.
"Victoria Sterling, you have the right to remain silent," Agent Vance read her rights as they began marching the matriarch through the center of the ballroom.

As she was led past the long banquet tables, past the wedding cake that would never be cut, Victoria kept her eyes locked on Elena. "You think you’ve won, Elena? You think Julian will ever look at you without seeing the woman who destroyed his family? You’ve inherited a graveyard. I will tear this entire city down before I let you keep a single brick of my empire."
Elena stood tall, her hand intertwined with Julian’s. "I didn't inherit a graveyard, Victoria. I cleared the rot so something healthy could finally grow."
