Chapter 7 - The Dawn of a New Empire

The underground tunnel ended in an abandoned train depot two miles from the estate.

Serena burst out into the cold night air, holding the sleeping infant tightly against her chest. The rain had stopped, replaced by a soft, clear starry sky.

Parked under the rusted iron arches was a heavy, black bulletproof SUV.

As Serena reached for the driver's door handle, a figure stepped out from the shadows of the depot.

It was Marco Rossi. His coat was covered in blood, a smoking assault rifle held in his dark hands.

"Going somewhere, Miss Hayes?" Marco sneered, raising the rifle toward her chest. "You've been a thorn in my side since the night you saved that bastard child."

Serena backed away slowly, shielding Lucas with her body. "It was you. You killed my brother Samuel."

"Your father was a fool who thought he could destroy the Corsetti empire with a notebook," Marco laughed sinisterly, stepping closer. "I shot your brother, I shot your mother, and tonight, I finish the job. Vincent is dying upstairs right now under twenty Moretti guns. The Corsetti family ends tonight."

"Not quite," a cold, iron voice rang out from the shadows behind Marco.

Marco whirled around in shock.

Vincent Corsetti stood at the entrance of the depot. His black shirt was torn, blood dripping from a wound on his shoulder, his face covered in soot and sweat, but his eyes burned with the lethal fire of a survivor.

Behind him stood thirty fully armed loyal Corsetti soldiers—the men who had remained true to their Don.

"Vincent... how...?" Marco stammered, backing up in terror.

"The Morettis are dead, Marco," Vincent said coldly, stepping forward with his silver pistol raised. "And so is my father's legacy of murder."

Marco frantically raised his rifle, but before he could pull the trigger, Vincent fired three rapid shots.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Marco Rossi dropped to his knees, his rifle clattering to the concrete floor, before collapsing into the dark dust.

The silence that followed was absolute.

Vincent lowered his gun, handed it to his chief guard, and slowly walked over to Serena. He looked exhausted, bloodied, but his eyes were completely clear, devoid of the darkness that had consumed him for years.

He stopped two feet away from her, looking down at Serena and his sleeping son.

"It's over, Serena," Vincent whispered softly. "The men who hurt your family are gone. You are safe. You are free."

Serena looked at the man standing before her—the mob boss who had burned down his own dark world to protect her and his child.

She stepped forward, holding Lucas with one arm, and reached up with her free hand, pressing her soft palm against Vincent’s bloody cheek.

"I'm not leaving, Vincent," Serena said, her voice clear, strong, and full of love. "We are staying with you."

Vincent stared at her, tears cutting clean tracks through the soot on his face, before pulling her and his son into a deep, tender embrace under the morning sky.

One Year Later. July 2026.

The sun shone brightly over a picturesque villa overlooking the blue waters of Lake Michigan.

The sound of joyful laughter echoed across the manicured green lawn as a healthy, robust one-year-old Lucas ran across the grass with a golden retriever puppy, his little legs moving with endless energy.

On the sunlit wooden patio, Serena stood in a beautiful white summer dress.

Her heart surgery six months ago had been a complete success—her heart was fully restored, beating strong and true.

Vincent walked out from the villa, dressed in a simple white linen shirt and trousers. Gone were the bodyguards, the heavy leather holsters, and the shadow of fear. He had officially disbanded the illegal operations of the Corsetti empire, transferring all capital into legitimate international shipping, medical research foundations, and orphanages across Chicago.

Vincent wrapped his strong arms around Serena’s waist from behind, resting his chin gently on her shoulder as they watched their son play.

"What are you thinking about?" Vincent murmured softly, kissing her cheek.

"I'm thinking about my brother Samuel," Serena smiled, leaning her head back against his chest. "He told me to live hard enough to make the world regret what it did to me. But standing here with you and Lucas... I don't want the world to regret anything anymore. I just want this peace."

Vincent reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box, opening it to reveal a brilliant sapphire engagement ring that sparkled like the clear summer sky.

"Then build a new life with me, Serena," Vincent whispered, his voice full of deep, eternal devotion. "Be my wife. Be the mother of my children. Be my heart."

May you like

Serena turned around in his arms, tears of pure happiness shining in her dark eyes, and kissed him deeply under the warm afternoon sun.

"Yes, Vincent," Serena whispered against his lips. "Always yes."
