Chapter 6 - The Sunshine Symphony

One Year Later
The historic St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan was filled with thousands of white lilies and warm, glowing candles.
The pews were packed with hundreds of guests—city officials, reformed business associates, family friends, and dozens of children from the local youth foundations that Elena managed.
At the altar stood Dominic Russo.
He wore a dark midnight-blue tuxedo, looking impossibly handsome, his posture tall and confident. Beside him stood Salvatore, wearing a proud, tearful smile.
The grand pipe organ began to play a soft, majestic melody.
The heavy oak doors at the back of the cathedral swung open.
Walking down the aisle first were the three flower girls—Mia, Lucia, and Valentina. They wore matching pale pink dresses with flower crowns woven into their dark hair. They walked with total confidence, tossing white rose petals onto the red carpet, laughing softly with each other as they greeted the guests in the pews.
And then came the bride.
Elena Vasquez walked down the aisle on the arm of Dr. Aris, who had happily agreed to walk her down the aisle as a father figure.
She was breathtaking. Her white silk gown flowed around her like a dream, her dark hair styled in soft waves adorned with tiny crystal pins. She held a bouquet of yellow roses—the same color as the sunshine song she had sung in the kitchen two years ago.
As she reached the altar, Dominic stepped down to take her hand. His hands, once known only for power and violence, held hers with absolute tenderness.
"You are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen," Dominic whispered, his voice trembling with emotion.
Elena looked up at him through her veil, her smile radiant. "And you are the best decision I ever made."
The priest performed the ceremony, his words echoing through the grand stone arches of the cathedral.
When the time came for the vows, Dominic didn't read from a card. He looked straight into Elena’s eyes, holding both of her hands in his.
"Elena," Dominic spoke, his voice carrying clearly to every corner of the church. "Two years ago, I was a man living in absolute darkness. I thought my power could protect my family, but all it did was lock us in a cage. You walked into my home with nothing but a kind heart, and you gave my daughters their voices back. You taught me that true strength isn't about control—it's about love. I promise to cherish you, protect you, and love you for every remaining day of my life."
Elena wiped a happy tear from her cheek, her voice steady and full of love. "Dominic, I fell in love with your daughters first, but I fell in love with the father who was brave enough to change for them. You proved to me that even the hardest heart can be healed by love. I promise to stand by your side, to build a home filled with laughter, and to never let the music stop."
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest declared with a warm smile. "You may kiss the bride."
Dominic didn't hesitate. He pulled Elena close, wrapping his arm around her waist, and pressed a deep, passionate kiss onto her lips.
The entire cathedral erupted into thunderous applause and cheers.
As they pulled back, glowing with joy, the three little girls ran up to the altar, wrapping their arms around both of their legs.
"Can we sing now, Mommy Elena?" Mia asked loudly, her voice echoing over the applause.
Elena looked down, her heart overflowing, and offered a joyful nod. "Yes, sweetie. Let's sing."
Right there at the altar of the grand cathedral, surrounded by hundreds of people, Mia, Lucia, and Valentina raised their voices together, singing the sweet, simple song about sunshine.
