Chapter 4 - Night of Fire

With a sharp whistle from Connor, the high windows around the upper perimeter of the warehouse shattered simultaneously.

Three of Connor’s elite snipers, positioned on the surrounding rooftops, opened fire from above. Precision shots dropped Viktor’s mercenaries one by one before they could even adjust their aim.

The warehouse erupted into a chaotic storm of tactical gunfire. Connor moved with lethal efficiency, drawing his silenced weapon and advancing through the smoke, dropping two enemy gunmen who tried to flank Liam's position.

Viktor Voronin’s eyes widened in panic as his men fell around him. Recognizing that he had walked directly into a trap, Viktor turned and ran toward his armored SUV parked outside in the rain.

"Liam! Secure Daniel!" Connor ordered, sprinting after Viktor through the heavy iron doors into the pouring rain.

The storm roared outside. Water sheets poured down from the metal eaves of the warehouse. Viktor reached his SUV, frantically scrambling to open the door, but Connor hit him like a freight train, slamming the heavy Russian boss against the armored glass.

The two men crashed into the muddy pavement, rolling across the wet gravel. Viktor drew a long combat knife, slashing wildly at Connor’s chest. The blade ripped through Connor’s heavy coat, leaving a superficial red gash across his forearm.

Connor didn't even flinch. He grabbed Viktor’s wrist, twisting it inward until the bone snapped with a sharp crack.

Viktor screamed in agony as the knife dropped into the mud. Connor pulled Viktor up by his collar, pinning him against the tire of the SUV, and pressed the cold barrel of his pistol directly against Viktor’s forehead.

"Wait! Wait!" Viktor choked out, rain pouring over his bloodied face. "Business! It was just business, Malone!"

"Not anymore," Connor growled, his face inches from Viktor's. "You threatened a little girl who just wanted to buy groceries for her mother. There is no business left between us."

"If you kill me, my family in Moscow will send a hundred men!" Viktor threatened desperately.

"Let them come," Connor whispered. "I'll bury every single one of them in the river."

Connor didn't pull the trigger. Instead, he slammed the heavy steel handle of the pistol into Viktor’s temple, knocking the mob boss instantly unconscious.

Liam ran out of the warehouse, his gun held low, wiping smoke from his eyes. "Boss! The warehouse is clear. Daniel is alive, but he’s terrified out of his mind."

"Call the police Chief directly," Connor ordered, throwing Viktor’s limp body onto the hood of the car. "Give them Viktor Voronin and Daniel Webb on a silver platter. Put every drop of evidence regarding Daniel’s human trafficking and illegal gambling on the Chief's desk. Make sure Daniel spends the rest of his miserable life in a federal penitentiary where he can never touch Sarah or Gracie again."

"Understood, Boss," Liam said. He paused, looking at the blood dripping from Connor’s arm. "You're hurt."

"It's just a scratch," Connor said, looking up into the rain-filled night sky as the distant sirens of approaching police cars began to wail through the city streets. "Get the cars ready. I’m going home."
