Chapter 4 - The Corporate Purge

Three Months Later

The transition from a struggling, minimum-wage florist to the primary shareholder of a multi-billion-dollar maritime shipping conglomerate was a trial by fire, but Sarah Harrington Miller possessed a resilience that her high-society cousins had completely underestimated.

She stood at the head of the massive mahogany boardroom table on the top floor of the Harrington Tower in downtown Seattle. She wore a sharp, custom-tailored emerald-green suit, her dark hair pulled back into an elegant, commanding bun. Beside her sat Charles, looking healthier and more vibrant than he had in a decade, acting as her personal advisor.

Across the table sat the remaining board members, along with Chloe’s mother, Beatrice Harrington, who was dressed in deep mourning black, her face twisted in bitter resentment.

"This is an absolute outrage!" Beatrice slammed her hand onto the table. "My husband Richard is facing fifteen years in a federal penitentiary, and now you want to liquidate our family’s entire secondary real estate portfolio? You are stripping us of our homes, Sarah! We built this company's image!"

"You built an image on stolen money, Beatrice," Sarah said, her voice entirely devoid of fear, carrying the absolute, unyielding authority of a true Harrington leader. She slid a thick stack of audited financial reports across the glass table. "Over the last ten years, your branch of the family embezzled forty-five million dollars from the employee healthcare fund to pay for Chloe’s luxury equestrian hobbies and your private European vacations."

The board members immediately shifted uncomfortably, several of them quickly pulling their chairs away from Beatrice.

"As the majority shareholder," Sarah continued, leaning forward, her eyes flashing with a cold, protective fire, "I am executing a total corporate purge. Beatrice, your luxury penthouse lease has been terminated as of noon today. Every asset, every car, and every country club membership registered under your name is being liquidated to fully restore the employee healthcare fund and to build five new maternal health clinics across the state."

Beatrice stood up, her lips trembling with wild rage. "You think you can just erase us? You’re just a florist who got lucky because of a stray animal!"

"I am the woman who knows exactly what it feels like to be treated like garbage, Beatrice," Sarah said softly, her voice echoing clearly through the silent boardroom. "And I will spend the rest of my life ensuring that no one in this company ever feels that way again. You have two hours to pack your clothes. Security will escort you out."

As Beatrice rushed out of the room in tears, the board members stood up in unison, bowing deeply to Sarah as they realized that the true queen of the Harrington empire had officially claimed her throne.
