Chapter 6 - The Sanctuary of Light

Late that evening, the Castillo mansion was quiet.
The cold, sterile atmosphere that had hung over the estate for three years was completely gone. Warm yellow light poured from every window, soft jazz music floated through the open terrace doors, and the smell of fresh lavender and home-cooked dinner filled the grand halls.
In the east wing—where the old entrance to the cellar had once stood—the stone walls and heavy iron doors had been completely demolished. In their place, Alejandro had commissioned a stunning two-story glass conservatory filled with exotic tropical plants, indoor fountains, and a skylight that allowed the moonlight to flood the room.
In the center of the conservatory sat a comfortable white sofa.
Alejandro sat beside Elena, his arm wrapped tightly around her waist, her head resting comfortably against his chest. Little Leo was fast asleep between them, wrapped in a soft blue blanket, his tiny hand holding tightly onto Alejandro’s thumb.
"What are you thinking about, my love?" Alejandro whispered, pressing a soft kiss against the top of her head.
Elena looked up at the stars twinkling through the glass roof above them. She reached out with her left hand, catching the moonlight on her silver-and-pearl wedding ring—the ring that was back where it belonged on her finger.
"I was thinking about the night you found me," Elena said softly, a gentle smile touching her lips. "I was so scared, Alejandro. When the water bucket spilled, I thought Vivian’s guards were going to punish me again."
Alejandro’s grip around her tightened slightly, his face softening with deep emotion. "I knew your voice the second you spoke, Elena. Even if a hundred years had passed, even if I were blind, I would know your voice anywhere in the world."
"I heard you searching for me," Elena confessed quietly, looking down at their sleeping son. "Every night for three years, when it was quiet down there, I would hold Leo against my chest and tell him stories about you. I told him his father was a king who lived in a castle above us, and that one day, he would come down and open the door."
Alejandro felt tears sting his eyes. He leaned down, pressing his lips against hers in a slow, sweet, passionate kiss that tasted of peace, closure, and an eternal future.
"The castle belongs to you and Leo now," Alejandro murmured against her lips. "No more secrets. No more darkness. Only light."
Outside the glass conservatory, a gentle summer breeze rustled the leaves of the oak trees in the garden. The dark clouds of the past had cleared completely, leaving behind a clear, starlit sky over the mansion.

Little Leo let out a soft, contented sigh in his sleep, cuddled safe and warm between his parents.
Alejandro locked his fingers with Elena’s, holding his wife and son close as the quiet beauty of the night wrapped around them—a family finally whole, unbroken, and home forever.
