Chapter 9 - The Hidden Truth

The flight back to Seattle felt longer than any journey Ethan had ever taken. The tactical gear had been replaced by his standard suit, but the document he had pulled from the Cerberus server sat open on his lap, his eyes scanning the same paragraph for the hundredth time.

The file didn't contain corporate data. It contained medical records from a private, high-security orphanage located in the Swiss Alps, dated twenty-four years ago.

According to the legal birth certificates signed by Eleanor Blackwood—Ethan and Claire’s late mother—Claire wasn't an only daughter. She had a twin sister born three minutes after her. A sister named Elena, who had been diagnosed with a rare respiratory vulnerability at birth.

Margaret, who had already begun her desperate plot to seize control of the inheritance back then, had convinced Eleanor that the child wouldn't survive the harsh climate of the Pacific Northwest. She had secretly manipulated the medical records, sending the second twin away to the Swiss facility under a fake name, keeping her completely hidden from Ethan and the rest of the world, intending to let her portion of the inheritance default back to the trust upon her legal adulthood.

“She’s alive, Ethan,” Julian said softly from the adjacent seat, holding a real-time tracking report. “We verified the records with the Swiss orphanage. Elena was adopted by a quiet, academic family when she was five years old. She grew up in Geneva, entirely unaware of her connection to the Blackwood fortune. She’s currently working as a pediatric nurse at the main hospital there.”

Ethan looked at the photograph attached to the tracking file. The girl in the image looked so remarkably like Claire that it felt as if his heart were being torn open and healed at the exact same time. She had the same bright, intelligent eyes, the same gentle smile, and the same elegant posture.

“She thinks she’s entirely alone in the world,” Ethan whispered, his voice trembling with an immense, profound emotion. “Margaret stole her sister, stole her family, and kept her in the dark for twenty-four years just to secure a few more digits in a bank account.”

“What do you want to do, Ethan?” Julian asked gently. “The board meeting is scheduled for tomorrow morning to finalize your full, permanent appointment as Chairman. If you leave for Switzerland now…”

“The board can wait,” Ethan said, standing up and walking toward the cockpit. “Pilot, change our flight path immediately. We aren't going to Seattle. Head straight for Geneva international airport.”

Ethan looked out the window as the aircraft turned, flying high above the clouds, toward the sunrise. He had spent months fighting a war of absolute destruction against the people who had hurt his family. But looking at the photograph of the sister he never knew he had, Ethan realized that true victory wasn't just about punishing the guilty—it was about bringing the innocent home.
