Chapter 3 - The Social Media Inferno

By 6:00 AM the following morning, the corporate world didn't just experience a shift—it suffered a total collapse.
A massive, coordinated leak had occurred across every major social media platform. The hashtag #JusticeForKhloe was trending number one globally. Someone within the Pendelton legal team had released a brief, ten-second clip of the security footage—specifically the moment Isabella Rossi drove her designer heel into Khloe’s side—alongside a high-resolution photograph of the severe, crescent-shaped bruise on Khloe’s pregnant stomach.
The public reaction was an absolute bloodbath of outrage. The Thorne Group's public relations servers crashed from the sheer volume of hate mail and boycott threats. Major retail partners began pulling their brands from Thorne-owned luxury malls across the country.
Inside the executive boardroom of the Thorne Tower, Marcus sat at the head of the table, his head in his hands. The room was frantic. Twenty senior vice presidents and PR crisis managers were shouting over each other, their tablets flashing with continuous updates on the falling stock prices.
"Marcus, we have to release a statement!" the Chief Marketing Officer screamed, slamming her laptop shut. "The public thinks you orchestrated the attack to get rid of your wife! The media is calling you the 'Billionaire Monster'! If we don't present a unified front with Khloe within the next hour, our credit rating will be downgraded to junk status by noon!"
"We can't get a statement from Khloe," Donald Thorne, Marcus’s older brother and the chief operating officer, said as he walked into the room, his face pale. "I just tried to contact the hospital. The entire St. Jude Medical Network has been locked down by federal marshals. Arthur Pendelton has issued a total communication ban. Our lawyers can't even get into the parking lot."
Suddenly, the massive glass doors of the boardroom swung open.
Alejandro Vargas walked in, followed by two federal prosecutors and a team of forensic accountants from the Internal Revenue Service. They didn't look like they were there to negotiate; they looked like an execution squad in bespoke corporate suits.
"Marcus Thorne," Alejandro said, his voice echoing clearly over the sudden silence of the room. "As of eight o'clock this morning, the Pendelton Global Trust has executed its option to freeze all operational capital lines associated with the Thorne Group's primary checking accounts."
Marcus stood up, his fists slamming onto the mahogany table. "You can't do that, Alejandro! That money belongs to our shareholders! It’s illegal to freeze operational capital during a public market session!"
"It is entirely legal when those accounts are backed by land deeds that have been officially revoked due to criminal conspiracy," Alejandro replied smoothly, tossing a federal injunction onto the center of the table. "Furthermore, the prosecutors behind me have just unsealed an indictment against your brother, Donald, for wire fraud. It appears he was the one who authorized the secret monthly payments to Isabella Rossi’s offshore accounts using the company's employee healthcare fund."
Donald Thorne staggered backward, his face turning a sickly green as the federal marshals stepped up behind him, their handcuffs glittering under the fluorescent lights.
"Donald?" Marcus turned to his brother, his eyes wide with shock. "You... you knew what Isabella was doing? You were funding her?"
"I did it for the company, Marcus!" Donald shouted as the marshals grabbed his arms, pulling him away from the table. "Isabella had the signatures for the international merger! If she walked away, the deal was dead! I didn't know she was going to attack Khloe! You have to believe me!"
"Save your explanations for the grand jury, Mr. Thorne," the lead federal prosecutor said, dragging Donald out of the room while the remaining executives watched in absolute, paralyzed horror.

Marcus looked back at Alejandro, his voice shaking so violently he could barely form the words. "Where is Khloe? Let me speak to her, Alejandro. I’ll sign over my entire personal share portfolio to her. I’ll step down as CEO. Just tell her to stop this. Tell her to think about our family name."
"The Thorne name no longer has any value, Marcus," Alejandro said, picking up his briefcase and turning toward the exit. "Khloe isn't interested in your shares. She already owns the building you're standing in. By tomorrow morning, the Thorne sign on the exterior wall will be dismantled. You aren't just losing your company, Marcus. You're losing your freedom."
