Chapter 6 - The Fall of the Traitors

The ruin of Liam and Amber was swift and merciless.
Without the Rossi name and his father’s money, Liam’s landscaping business collapsed within a week. His creditors, realizing he no longer had the protection of the syndicate, descended on him like vultures. His sports car was repossessed, his luxury apartment was foreclosed, and his elite friends disappeared overnight.
Amber, realizing her "prize" was now broke and disgraced, began to panic.
She tried to contact me, sending dozens of desperate texts begging for forgiveness, claiming she was manipulated by Liam, that she was just a victim. I ignored every single one of them.
But the final act of their betrayal was yet to come.
Two weeks after the family dinner, Maya called me, her voice shaking with panic.
"Luna, you need to get to the docks," Maya gasped. "I was at a cafe near the marina, and I saw Amber and Liam meeting with Marcus Moretti. You know who that is—he’s Nico’s biggest rival! They were handing him a folder, Luna. I think they're trying to sell Nico's business secrets to the Moretti family to get back their money!"
My blood ran cold. "Are you sure?"
"Yes! I took a photo. I’m sending it to you now."
The photo showed Liam handing a thick, manila envelope to Marcus Moretti, a notorious mob boss who had been trying to take over the Hadley docks for years.
I didn't hesitate. I called Nico immediately, explaining what Maya had seen.
"I know," Nico said, his voice surprisingly calm. "My security team tracked their movements. They took a bait folder I left in my office. They think they have my shipping schedules, but they actually have a trap."
"What are you going to do?" I asked, my heart hammering.
"I am going to end this, Luna," Nico said softly. "And I want you to be there to see it. Dress warmly. The docks are cold at night."
At midnight, Nico’s limousine pulled up to Pier 9. The rain was pouring, the dark water of the river churning against the wooden pilings.
Nico led me into an abandoned warehouse, surrounded by his armed security guards. In the center of the room, under a single, flickering lightbulb, Liam and Amber were tied to two wooden chairs. They were soaked, shivering, and covered in bruises.
Across from them, Marcus Moretti and his men were already disarmed and kneeling on the concrete floor, guarded by Marco.
"Father!" Liam sobbed, his face a mask of terror as he saw Nico enter. "Please! It was Amber's idea! She said the Morettis would pay us five million for the folder! I didn't want to do it!"
"You liar!" Amber shrieked, her blonde hair matted against her face. "You were the one who stole the key to his office! You said you wanted to ruin him!"
Nico walked slowly toward them, his boots echoing in the quiet warehouse. He stopped in front of Liam, looking down at his son with a mixture of pity and disgust.
"You are my blood, Liam," Nico said softly. "But you are not a Rossi. A Rossi does not betray his family. A Rossi does not sell his father to his enemies."
He turned to Marcus Moretti. "As for you, Marcus... you thought you could use my foolish son to take my docks? You are getting old and sloppy."
"Nico, please," Moretti rasped, his hands raised. "Let's make a deal. I'll leave the city. Just let me go."
"You will leave the city," Nico agreed coldly. "In a wooden box. Marco, take care of them."
As Moretti and his men were dragged away into the shadows, Nico turned his attention back to Liam and Amber.
"Luna," Nico said, turning to me. "They are your betrayers. Their fate is in your hands. What do you want to do with them?"
I walked slowly toward my sister and my ex-boyfriend. Looking at them now, shivering, pathetic, and broken, I didn't feel anger anymore. I didn't feel the burning need for revenge. I only felt an immense, clean sense of freedom.
They were nothing to me.
"Let them live, Nico," I said, my voice clear and steady. "But strip them of everything. Send them to the furthest, poorest corner of the country. Let them spend the rest of their lives together, knowing they had the world and threw it away for nothing. Let them destroy each other."
May you like
Liam wept, his shoulders shaking, while Amber stared at me with a look of pure, defeated horror.
Nico nodded to his men. "You heard her. Take them away."
