Chapter 4: The Exposure of the Board

Julian Reed stared at the shattered pieces of the tablet on the floor, his face morphing from smug satisfaction into pure horror. "You... you crazy b—"
Before he could finish his insult, the heavy double doors of the corporate elevator at the end of the hall dinged. Four federal agents from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), accompanied by New York State Police officers, stepped onto the executive floor.
Nora Whitman walked beside them, holding a freshly printed federal arrest warrant.
"Julian Reed," the lead agent announced, his voice echoing through the quiet corridor. "You are under arrest for corporate espionage, grand larceny, illegal transfer of intellectual property, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud linked to Aegis Holdings."
Julian backed away, his hands shaking. "This is absurd! You have no proof of any illegal transfer! The patent movements were authorized under standard corporate restructuring!"
"They were authorized using a digital signature key that belonged to my deceased father, Michael Reed," John said, stepping forward, his voice absolute and commanding. "You forged his executive credentials post-mortem, Julian. We tracked the IP address used to log into the patent vault to your private villa in Monaco. The feds have been watching your servers for forty-eight hours."
Julian looked around frantically, his eyes landing on Director Vance, who was quietly trying to slip back into the boardroom. "Vance! Help me! Tell them the board approved the restructuring!"
Director Vance went pale, stopping in his tracks. "I... I have nothing to do with this, Julian. I was misled!"
"Oh, really?" Clara asked, stepping into his path. She held up her phone, playing an audio recording Nora had retrieved from the Marlowe Bridge servers an hour prior.
Vance’s own voice echoed from the phone: “Make sure Julian gets the trustee vote tomorrow. Once the patents are in Switzerland, we split the liquidation payout fifty-fifty.”
Vance collapsed against the wall, sliding down to his knees, his face entirely drained of color.
The police officers stepped forward, cuffing both Julian Reed and Director Vance in front of the remaining board members, who had flooded out into the hallway to witness the spectacle.
As Julian was led toward the elevators in handcuffs, he glared at Clara with absolute hatred. "You're nothing but a parasite, Clara! You're not a Reed! You'll never be one of us!"
Clara stood tall, her posture perfect, her gray dress looking like a suit of armor. "You're right, Julian. I'm not like you. And that is exactly why this company survived."
The elevator doors closed, taking the last of the corrupt Reeds away forever.
The remaining board members stood in stunned silence, looking at Clara and John. The realization of how close they had come to total destruction hung heavy in the air.
The oldest board member, a woman named Eleanor Vance (no relation to the corrupt director), stepped forward. She looked at Clara’s calm, unbothered expression, then at John’s mature, protective stance.
"Mrs. Reed," Eleanor said softly. "The board owes you a profound apology. We allowed ourselves to be manipulated by fear and sensationalism on social media. What is your command for the company?"
Clara looked at John, a subtle, proud smile gracing her lips. She stepped aside, giving him the center stage. "Don't ask me, Eleanor. Ask the future of this company. John, the floor is yours."

John stepped forward, looking at the board members. His voice was steady, no longer the boy who waited too long, but a man who knew exactly who he was. "Tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM, we are holding a global press conference. We are releasing the full, unedited forensic report proving the videos were fake. Furthermore, we are announcing that Reed Medical is transferring ten percent of all future oncology patent profits directly into the Laura Reed Foundation to expand our low-income housing programs across the country. If anyone on this board objects to putting human lives over profit margins, you may submit your resignation to my mother by 5:00 PM today."
Not a single board member moved. Instead, one by one, they began to nod, until the entire hallway filled with a respectful, thunderous applause.
