Chapter 5 - The Price of Greed

While I was building my life, Diane and Blake’s world was crumbling. Without my steady management of the household finances, Blake’s lack of professional ambition was finally catching up to him. He had relied on me to keep his life organized, his bills paid, and his ego inflated.
Without me, the house I had worked so hard to make a home became a tomb of unpaid invoices and lawsuits. Diane had tried to leverage our house to pay for her shopping addiction and her legal fees for the custody battle, not realizing that I had legally protected the property in my own name years ago.
When the foreclosure notice was slapped on the front door, the neighbors watched as Blake was evicted. He stood on the curb, his mother sobbing on the sidewalk, holding her designer bags—the bags she had chosen over her grandkids.
