Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

Six months later.
The cold November rain had long since given way to the warm, golden light of a Long Island spring. The black gardens of the Duca estate were no longer a sheet of moving ink; they were alive with the vibrant colors of blooming cherry blossoms, lavender, and white roses.
On the wide stone terrace overlooking the water, a long table was set with white linen, fresh fruit, and expensive crystal glasses that sparkled in the afternoon sun.
Alessandro Duca sat at the head of the table. He wore a simple, casual linen shirt, his face relaxed in a way his men had never seen before.
To his right sat Leo, his arm wrapped tightly around the shoulders of his wife, Maria. Her left hand was gently bandaged, but her smile was bright, her eyes reflecting the warm, peaceful blue of the Atlantic Ocean.
And at the center of the lawn, running through the green grass with a laughter that filled the warm air, was Clara.
She was wearing a beautiful yellow sundress, her dark hair tied back with a clean, bright ribbon. In her hand, she held a small, silver wolf’s head medallion, watching it catch the sunlight as she ran.
"She’s getting fast," Leo said, his voice soft with a deep, peaceful contentment. He looked at Alessandro, his amber eyes filled with a gratitude that went far beyond words. "Thank you, Alessandro. For giving us our lives back."
"You are my family, Leo," Alessandro said, raising his glass of red wine. "And a Duca never abandons his family."
Luca stepped onto the terrace, holding a small, sleek black laptop. He walked over to Alessandro, a rare, faint smile on his rugged face.
"Boss," Luca said. "The new security grid is fully online. The Zurich specialists tried to find a single vulnerability in the code. They said it was completely flawless. Unbreakable."
Alessandro smiled, looking down at the lawn where Clara had stopped running, her eyes fixed on the laptop in Luca’s hand.
"That’s because they didn't have our chief architect," Alessandro said.
He waved Clara over. The little girl didn't hesitate; she sprinted up the stone steps, her small sneakers squeaking against the polished granite, and jumped straight onto Alessandro’s lap.
"Did you fix the bad lights, Uncle Sandro?" she asked, her amber eyes shining with intelligence.
"We fixed them all, Clara," Alessandro said, gently stroking her dark hair. "The hallways are completely bright now. No more dark corners."
He opened the laptop, revealing the pulsing green communication map. The hundreds of nodes were perfectly aligned, breathing in a steady, synchronized rhythm.
Ping, return, count. Ping, return, count.
Clara reached out, her tiny finger pressing against the center screen, pointing to a brand-new, gold-colored node that sat right at the heart of the system—a node that represented the secure line between Alessandro’s terminal and Leo’s home.

"That one," she said, her small face tightening with a brilliant, happy smile. "That’s the one that always answers back."
"Yes, it is," Alessandro whispered, pulling her close as the warm spring wind swept across the terrace, carrying the scent of salt, flowers, and a future that belonged entirely to them.
