Chapter 6: The Feast of the Faithful

The dining room table of the Whitmore estate was fully set for dinner. The expensive silver and crystal were there, but tonight, they didn't look cold. They reflected the warm, golden glow of candlelight and the roaring fire in the hearth.
Henry sat at the head of the table, raising a glass of wine. Grant sat beside Claire, his hand tightly intertwined with hers beneath the linen tablecloth.
"To Margaret," Henry said, looking up toward the ceiling with a peaceful smile. "And to Claire, the woman she sent to remind us how to live."
"To family," Grant added, looking at Claire with a devotion that money could never replace.
