CHAPTER 2 — THE BLOOD IN THE MARBLE
Headmaster Ellison finally found his voice.
“Mr. Rowe, this is an academic institution. You can’t just—”
Damien turned his head slightly.
Two of his men stepped forward.
Ellison stopped speaking mid-sentence.
The room understood instantly: whatever rules existed here, they no longer applied.
Maren tried to lift herself again.
“Damien…” Her voice cracked. “My baby… I think something’s wrong—”
That was all it took.
Damien crossed the room in seconds, dropping to his knees beside her. The same man who made presidents wait now pressed trembling fingers to her face like she was the only thing real in the world.
“Look at me,” he said softly.
Her lips shook. “They said you were dead.”
“I know.”
“I believed them.”
“I know,” he repeated, voice breaking for the first time.
A sharp sound echoed behind them—Chloe scoffing again, still defiant.
“She works for us. You can’t just come in here and—”
Damien didn’t even look up.
“Vincent.”
A man stepped forward.
“Yes, sir.”
“Clear this room.”
“What about them?”
Damien’s eyes stayed on Maren.
“Make them remember what happens when they forget who I am.”

The doors shut.
And the screaming began.
