Chapter 8 - The Great Escape

Panic surged through the vault as the heavy ventilation fan hummed and then ground to a complete halt. Victor had cut the oxygen flow to the vault. "Everyone stay calm," Marcus ordered, his voice steady despite the rising temperature in the small room. "Conserve your breathing. Deep, slow breaths." Marcus immediately pulled out a specialized satellite communication device from his tactical bag—a unit designed to bypass thick concrete structures using low-frequency radio waves.
While Eleanor held my hand, keeping me calm as the air began to thin, Marcus worked frantically on the electronic lock panel near the door. "Victor thinks he's clever, but he bought a legacy security system for his own properties three years ago," Marcus explained, pulling open the wiring panel. "The bank uses the exact same master override override protocols." Working with surgical precision, Marcus stripped two wires, connecting his satellite device directly to the vault's circuit board.

Outside, we could hear the faint sound of footsteps and distant shouting. Marcus had alerted his backup tactical team before entering the bank. With a sudden spark of blue light, the electronic lock override chimed green. The massive steel vault door swung open with a heavy hiss. Standing in the hallway were Marcus’s armed security team, along with local Miami police officers, who had already tackled Victor Whitmore to the ground as he tried to flee down the service stairs with a canister of gasoline.
Victor was dragged up against the wall in handcuffs, his smug attitude completely shattered as he realized his murder plot had failed. "You're insane!" Victor screamed as the officers forced him to his knees. "My father will destroy you all!" Eleanor walked up to her nephew, her face filled with cold contempt. "Your father is being arrested in Philadelphia as we speak, Victor," she said smoothly. "Enjoy your new home in a federal facility."
