Chapter 7 - The Bank Heist

The next morning at 8:00 AM, Marcus, Eleanor, and I stood outside the imposing limestone building of Miami First National Bank. Using a emergency court order obtained by Eleanor’s high-powered legal team, along with the key code provided by Dr. Thorne, we gained entry into the bank's subterranean vault. The heavy steel door of Box 412 clicked open, revealing a thick stack of bank ledgers, audio cassette recordings, and signed affidavits explicitly detailing Julian’s orchestration of my abduction and fake death.
Among the papers was an original audio cassette tape labeled Julian - Nov 14. Marcus produced a portable tape player from his coat, inserting the cassette and pressing play. The room filled with the crackling, undeniable sound of Julian Whitmore’s voice from twenty-six years ago: “Make sure the death certificate is filed by Monday, Aris. I don't care what you do with the brat, just get her out of Philadelphia. Eleanor will be out of the coma in a week, and I need this estate locked down under my management before she starts asking questions.”

"It's over," Marcus said, stopping the tape with a triumphant look. "This isn't just civil court evidence. This is conspiracy to commit kidnapping, extortion, and obstruction of justice. Julian is going away for the rest of his natural life." But as we turned to exit the vault holding the lockbox, the main heavy doors of the vault room suddenly swung shut, locking with a loud, metallic thud.
The vault’s emergency inter-com speaker crackled to life, and Victor Whitmore’s arrogant voice echoed through the metal room. "Did you really think my father wouldn't have a tracking device on Thorne’s hospital room?" Victor laughed maniacally over the speaker. "You might have the evidence, dear cousin, but you're locked in a soundproof, airtight vault five stories underground. By the time the bank staff opens this vault on Monday morning, you'll all have run out of oxygen. And the evidence will be burned."
