Chapter 10 - The Safe Harbor

One year later.
The summer sun shone brightly over the vast green estate. The grand sunroom doors were thrown wide open, allowing a soft, sweet ocean breeze to drift through the house, carrying the scent of blooming roses and fresh sea salt.
In the center of the manicured lawn, a massive white wedding marquee was set up, decorated with thousands of white peonies and soft emerald ribbons.
Inside the estate's grand nursery, Emma stood in front of the mirror, adjusting her dress. It was a custom haute-couture bridal gown made of ivory lace, designed specifically to celebrate her lush, full-figured silhouette. The sweetheart neckline showcased her collarbones, while the flowing cathedral train stretched out behind her like a sea of silk.
The door burst open, and three-year-old Lily came running into the room.
She wasn't using a walker. She wasn't holding onto a wall. She was running smoothly on her own two legs, her dark curls bouncing, wearing a tiny ivory flower-girl dress.
"Mama! Mama!" Lily cheered, throwing her small arms around Emma’s knees. "Leo took my basket!"
Emma knelt down gracefully, catching her daughter in a warm hug, kissing both of her cheeks. "Leo is just excited, sweetie. You are the chief flower captain today, remember?"
"I walk fast now, Mama," Lily giggled proudly, standing on her tiptoes.
"You walk like an angel, my little bird," Emma whispered, tears of pure joy glistening in her eyes.
"Mama" was a title Lily had naturally chosen six months ago, and every time the child said it, Emma’s heart overflowed with happiness.
A soft knock sounded, and Gabriel stepped into the room. He wore a crisp black tuxedo with a white rose pinned to his lapel. He looked healthier, happier, and younger than he ever had, the cold, dark lines of tension permanently erased from his face.
He walked over, scooping Lily up with one arm, while his other arm wrapped firmly around Emma’s waist, pulling his bride against his chest.
"You look breathtaking, my love," Gabriel whispered, pressing a lingering, tender kiss to her lips.
"Are you ready for this, Mr. Moretti?" Emma teased gently, resting her hand over his heart.
"I have been ready since the night I found you in my kitchen," Gabriel replied, his dark eyes filled with endless, devotion-filled warmth. "You gave us a home, Emma. You gave my daughter her future. You gave me a reason to live."

Downstairs, the wedding music began to play—a beautiful string quartet echoing over the sunlit lawn. Friends, loyal associates, and the family that Emma had built surrounded the aisle.
Gabriel held Emma’s hand tightly, their fingers intertwined, the large canary diamond sparkling in the sunlight. Side by side, with Lily and Leo walking happily ahead of them, they stepped out into the bright, golden afternoon—a family forged in darkness, saved by courage, and bound forever by a sweet, unyielding love.
