Chapter 5 - The Venom in the Glass

Two weeks passed in a blur of intense, subterranean warfare. On the surface, Savannah was buzzing with excitement over the Holloway-Langford wedding. The media painted it as the union of the century, bringing together the city's oldest money and its most powerful logistics dynasty.
Behind the scenes, Grant was quietly moving his pieces.
With Vance’s help, Grant systematically identified Desmond’s private offshore accounts, tracing the money trail from the forged medical records back to a corrupt doctor named Dr. Alan Vance (no relation to tracker Vance) who had since been relocated to a private clinic in Nassau.
Meanwhile, Jolene remained safe at the Skidaway Island estate. Grant visited her every night under the cover of darkness.
Those nights were his only sanctuary.
He would sit on the edge of the large king-sized bed, stripping off his heavy suit coat, resting his head against Jolene’s lap while she gently ran her fingers through his dark hair. They didn't talk much about the war—they talked about the baby.
"It’s a boy," Jolene whispered one evening, placing his hand over a sharp kick near her ribs.
Grant closed his eyes, a deep sense of peace washing over his battle-weary soul. "A boy."
"Have you thought of a name?" she asked gently.
"Leo," Grant said without hesitation. "After my father. The only Holloway who actually knew what honor meant."
Jolene smiled, leaning down to kiss his cheek. "Leo Holloway. It sounds strong."
"He will be strong," Grant said, opening his eyes, his gaze hardening into steel. "Because he will grow up in a world where Desmond Holloway no longer breathes."
Jolene held his face in her hands, her gray-blue eyes filled with concern. "Grant... the wedding is in four days. Desmond isn't stupid. He knows you're up to something. He’s reinforced his personal guard."
"I know," Grant said. "He thinks he’s leading me into a trap. He thinks that once I’m married to Monica, he can use my new legal ties to force me into early retirement—or have me quietly eliminated so he can act as regent for my estate."
May you like
Grant sat up, wrapping his arms securely around Jolene, pulling her tight against his heart.
"He thinks he’s the hunter," Grant murmured into her hair. "But he forgot who taught me how to shoot."
