I took down the first two operatives, but the third managed to graze my shoulder with a suppressed round. I ducked behind a humming server rack, clutching my arm, blood seeping through my coat.
I was pinned down. The third man was advancing, reloading his weapon with cold efficiency.
Suddenly, a gunshot rang out from the ventilation shaft above. The operative dropped to the floor, motionless.
A figure dropped down from the ceiling grate, landing lightly on their feet. They wore a tactical mask, which they slowly peeled back.

"Elias?" I stared in disbelief. Elias was a former Syndicate cleaner—a man I had spared six years ago.
"You owe me a beer," Elias said, offering me a hand. "I heard The Roots were trying to crack Vanguard. Figured you could use some help from the dark side."
