Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Circle

Six months later...

The autumn air had turned crisp, painting the wooded hills around the Falcone estate in brilliant shades of amber, crimson, and gold.

On the wide stone terrace overlooking Lake Michigan, a small wooden table was set for three.

Milo, now completely recovered and bursting with the boundless, chaotic energy of a normal three-year-old, chased a golden retriever across the manicured lawn, his high-pitched laughter echoing off the limestone walls of the mansion.

I sat at the table, sipping hot spiced cider, watching him run with a deep, unbreakable peace settling deep into my bones.

Footsteps approached from behind, and a heavy wool blanket draped gently over my shoulders.

Nico pulled out the chair beside me and sat down, pouring himself a cup of coffee. He looked relaxed—the rigid, defensive posture he had worn like armor for years had melted away, replaced by the quiet, grounded strength of a man who finally had everything worth fighting for.

"He’s going to exhaust that dog before lunch," Nico observed with a faint smile.

"Let him," I laughed, leaning my head against his shoulder. "Energy is much better than a fever."

Nico wrapped an arm around me, pulling me close against his side. He kissed the top of my head, lingering there for a long, quiet moment.

"You know," Nico murmured, his voice rich and steady, "when my phone rang at 4:07 in the morning six months ago... I thought my world was ending."

"And instead?" I asked, looking up into his dark eyes.

Nico smiled—a warm, radiant expression that transformed his face completely.

"Instead," he said softly, "it was just beginning."

Down on the lawn, Milo stopped running, looked up at us, and waved frantically with both hands, shouting at the top of his lungs: "Mama! Daddy! Look at me!"

Nico raised his hand and waved back, his fingers intertwined securely with mine.

The silence that had lived in my chest for two years was gone, replaced forever by the loudest, most beautiful sound in the world: a family that had survived the dark and finally found its way home.
