Chapter 10 - A New Dawn (Happy Ending)

One Year Later.

The morning sun streamed through the high floor-to-ceiling windows of the Vance estate, painting the polished hardwood floors in warm golden light. The dark, gloomy shadow that had once hung over the mansion was completely gone, replaced by the warm sound of laughter echoing through the halls.

Down in the sunlit garden, a little girl with bright brown eyes and soft brown curls was chasing a golden retriever puppy across the green grass.

"Ellie, don't run too fast!" I called out with a giggle, sitting at an outdoor wooden table, holding a fresh cup of coffee.

Ellie turned around, letting out a delighted squeal as she tottered on her small legs, holding her favorite yellow rattle up in the air. She was almost two years old now—healthy, happy, and loved beyond measure.

Footsteps echoed on the patio behind me. Warm, strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind, and a gentle kiss was pressed against the side of my neck.

"Morning, Mrs. Vance," Victor murmured in his deep, rumbling voice.

I smiled, leaning my head back against his broad shoulder. "Good morning, Mr. Vance. You're up early."

"I had a very persuasive alarm clock," Victor chuckled, pointing toward Ellie, who was currently trying to climb onto a low garden bench.

Over the past year, the city had completely changed. With Moretti gone and the traitors eliminated, Victor had systematically dismantled the illegal operations of the Vance syndicate, transforming the family business into a legitimate, multi-billion-dollar global enterprise focused on logistics, philanthropy, and real estate. The crime boss who had once ruled through fear was now a respected business titan and philanthropist.

And Victoria, who had once viewed me as a threat, had become one of my closest friends and business partners, managing our charitable foundation dedicated to supporting single mothers and orphaned children.

"She looks more like Julian every day," I said softly, looking at Ellie as she laughed in the sun.

"She has his spirit," Victor agreed, his grip around my waist tightening affectionately. "And your courage."

Victor pulled a small, velvet-lined navy box from his jacket pocket and placed it on the table in front of me.

I blinked in surprise, looking up at him. "What’s this?"

"Open it," Victor smiled softly.

I opened the box. Resting inside was a breathtaking platinum ring set with a brilliant, flawless emerald surrounded by tiny diamonds.

"Victor..." I gasped, my hand flying to my mouth.

Victor stepped around the table, dropping down onto one knee on the smooth stone floor. The man who had once brought the entire underground city to its knees looked up at me with complete, unreserved vulnerability in his icy blue eyes.

"Lena," Victor said, his voice deep and rich with emotion. "A year ago, you walked into my restaurant broken, terrified, and desperate to protect your child. You brought light into a darkness I had lived in for ten years. You showed me what it truly means to love, to forgive, and to fight for a family."

He reached out, taking my hand gently in his.

"I loved my brother, and I will honor his memory forever," Victor continued softly. "But I love you, Lena. With all my heart and soul. I want to spend the rest of my life protecting you, loving you, and being a father to Ellie. Will you marry me?"

Tears of pure happiness welled up in my eyes, spilling down my cheeks.

"Yes," I whispered, my voice breaking with emotion. "Yes, Victor! A thousand times yes!"

Victor slipped the ring onto my finger, stood up, and pulled me into a passionate, breathtaking kiss.

"Daddy! Mommy!" Ellie’s joyful voice chirped from below us.

We broke apart, laughing. Ellie had wobbled over to us, holding her yellow rattle, reaching her tiny arms up toward Victor.

Victor swept her up into his arms effortlessly, kissing her soft cheek until she giggled uncontrollably. He wrapped his free arm around my waist, pulling me close against his side.

As I looked out over the sun-drenched gardens, listening to the laughter of my daughter and holding the man who had saved our lives and healed our hearts, I finally knew that the storms were over.

We had found our home.
