Chapter 7 - THE RECKONING OF BEATRICE

By sunrise, the rain had stopped, giving way to a pale, misty morning.

The canyon estate was crawling with federal agents, local police, and private forensic teams clearing the remnants of the Vance syndicate attack. Seven attackers had been eliminated; three had been taken into federal custody.

In the grand study downstairs, Ricardo stood behind his desk. His face was bandaged where flying glass had cut him, his eyes cold as absolute zero.

Beside him stood Marco, holding an encrypted laptop that had been retrieved from Mateo Cruz's vehicle.

Elena sat on the leather sofa, holding a warm cup of coffee, wrapped in a thick blanket. In the adjoining room, the quadruplets were being examined by a private medical team, uninjured and resting peacefully.

The study doors opened.

Two armed Vale security guards escorted Beatrice Vance-Flores into the room. Her hair was messy, her silk suit stained with mud, her wrists bound in heavy steel handcuffs.

"Ricardo!" Beatrice wailed, her voice shrill with fake horror. "Thank God you're alive! The security guards arrested me at my hotel! They say I was involved in this nightmare! You must tell them to release me!"

Ricardo didn't speak. He slowly turned the encrypted laptop around so she could see the screen.

Displayed on the monitor were wire transfer logs totaling five million dollars from Beatrice's Swiss account to Mateo Cruz, along with the precise GPS coordinates and digital security overrides for the canyon estate’s front gate.

Beatrice’s face went ghastly white. Her wailing stopped instantly, replaced by a cold, trapped terror.

"You sold out your own blood, Beatrice," Ricardo said, his voice terrifyingly quiet—a tone far worse than yelling. "You gave Mateo Cruz the codes to the house where your sister's children sleep."

"They aren't my blood!" Beatrice spat, dropping her helpless facade, her eyes flashing with pure envy and hatred. "They are YOUR blood, Ricardo! Isabella died because she married you! You took everything from my family! That estate, the holding company, the legacy—it should have been mine! I was the eldest sister!"

"You are a monster," Elena spoke up from the sofa, her voice clear and filled with absolute disgust. "You tried to murder nine-year-old children for money and spite."

Beatrice glared at Elena, her lip curling into a sneer. "Shut up, you pathetic little charity case! You think because you survived one night you're part of this family? You're nothing! A replaceable servant!"

Ricardo walked around the desk, stepping up to Beatrice until he was looming over her like an executioner.

"Elena saved my children's lives last night," Ricardo said, his voice dripping with absolute finality. "She stood between a gunman and my family while you sat in a hotel room counting blood money."

He looked at Marco. "Hand the drive over to the FBI Special Prosecutor. Ensure she is charged with treason, grand conspiracy, and attempted murder of minors. Make sure she spends the rest of her natural life in a maximum-security federal prison."

"No! Ricardo, please!" Beatrice shrieked as the guards grabbed her arms, dragging her backward out of the study. "I'm Isabella's sister! You can't do this to me! RICARDO!"

Her screams faded down the long marble corridor until the heavy oak doors clicked shut, restoring total silence to the room.

Ricardo stood in the center of the study, his shoulders sagging slightly under the immense weight of the past four years finally coming to a close. The Vance syndicate was dead. The internal traitor was caught. The war was over.

Elena stood up from the sofa, walked over, and gently placed her hand on his arm.

Ricardo turned to her, pulling her close, resting his forehead against hers.

"It's over," Elena whispered. "You protected them."

"We protected them," Ricardo corrected her softly, kissing her forehead with tender reverence. "Together."
