Chapter 6 - A New Dawn on Long Island

Silence returned to the study, save for the crackling of the distant fireplace and the steady hum of the ventilation system.

Aleandro slowly lowered his weapon, clicking the safety back into place. He turned around, walking back toward the mahogany desk.

Sophia was still kneeling on the floor, holding Emma tightly against her chest, both of them trembling from the adrenaline and horror of what they had just witnessed.

Aleandro knelt down beside them. For the first time in three years, the harsh, frozen lines of his face softened into something genuinely gentle.

"I am sorry," Aleandro said, his voice deep and steady. "You came here to clean a library, and instead you walked into a war zone."

Sophia looked up, her dark eyes flashing with a mix of fear and fierce maternal defiance. "We're leaving. Right now. You can keep our names, you can check our bags, but you are letting us walk out those gates."

Aleandro didn't stand up. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small, pristine velvet box—not a weapon, not a threat.

He opened it. Inside sat a brand-new, pediatric-grade titanium carrying case containing three medical-grade EpiPens, along with a black credit card bearing no expiration date and unlimited purchasing power.

"You saved my life, Sophia," Aleandro said quietly. "And your daughter saved me from a darkness I didn't think I would ever escape. For three years, this house has been a tomb because I believed everyone I loved was taken from me. But tonight, I realized something."

He looked at Emma, who was peeking out from behind her mother's shoulder, clutching her rabbit backpack.

"Mr. Moretti?" Emma asked softly. "Are the bad guys gone?"

"They're gone, peanut," Aleandro smiled—a warm, unbroken smile that the underworld had never seen. "And they're never coming back."

He looked back up at Sophia. "My estate is thirty rooms, six fireplaces, and an empty library. It’s too big for one man. I need someone to manage the household. Someone brave, honest, and fiercely protective. Name your terms, Sophia. Stay."

Sophia stared at the billionaire mafia boss—the Ice King who had just dismantled his own inner circle to protect her child. She looked down at the titanium medical case, then at her daughter's smiling face.

The heavy iron gates of the Long Island estate opened once more that evening, but this time, they didn't let fear in. They let a new life begin.
