Chapter 5 - The Collapse of the Traitors

Susan collapsed against the door, sliding down until she was sitting on the Persian rug, sobbing uncontrollably.
"We didn't mean to kill her!" Susan shrieked, the confession tearing out of her throat like a jagged knife. "Claire found the offshore transfer folders! She was going to go to the federal prosecutor! She told us she was taking the boys—taking the family away from the mafia blood money! She was going to destroy everything my father built!"
Julian cursed loudly, lunging toward the door to escape, but before his hand could touch the brass handle, the side door of the study burst open.
Frank Moretti and four elite security guards swarmed into the room. In less than three seconds, Julian was slammed face-first onto the mahogany floor, his arms wrenched behind his back as steel handcuffs clicked into place.
"Get them out of my sight," Rory commanded, his voice shaking with a terrifying, suppressed fury. "Lock them in the lower security vault. Call federal prosecutor Vance and tell him we have a signed, recorded confession to a homicide and high-level corporate treason."
"Rory! Please! We're family!" Julian screamed as he was dragged across the floor.
"You stopped being family the moment you touched my children," Rory spat.
As the guards dragged Susan and Julian out into the hallway, the heavy oak doors clicked shut once more.
Rory stood alone in the dark study. He picked up the broken teddy bear and the small black module, his hands finally steadying.
For three years, he had believed he failed as a father. For three years, he had blamed himself for not protecting Claire.
Now, the fog had lifted. The traitors were unmasked. Justice—absolute, unyielding, and final—was being served.

He walked out of the study, climbed the grand staircase, and made his way quietly down the second-floor corridor toward the nursery.
The door was ajar. A warm, soft light spilled out into the hallway.
